If you dont mind me hijacking your OP, I feel that I can add more information on the subject of lightning. It could be helpful in understanding the
real force behind what might be going on.
I must say though, even though I am at an eternal conflict with myself about UFOs and what they really are, if they are at all, I did have an
interesting thought about your take on "aliens using our storms for energy", just without the aliens. Dont get me wrong, I feel that anything is
really possible, so it could very well be true, as I am only just another ant on this earth.
The thought of powering a craft with that kind of ferrosity, is in itself a wonder. Lets just say that we can come up with some sort of capacitor
that can hold vast amounts of electricity, put wings on it, a shuttle for people/cargo, and skim it across the top of the atmosphere. Currently I
know of the world's largest capacitor capable of storing 50 megajoules of energy, but these are a combinations of smaller components if I'm not
mistaken.
NASA has done some tests with a tether, sat and the shuttle for various reasons. One being, to measure how much energy existed between the upper
layer of our atmosphere and space. What they found suprised them. It produced 3 times more than they imagined. Not to mention, the test was not
fully sucessful as the tether broke soon after it began. NASA claims that the tether broke due to it becomming stuck/jammed, even so, when it hit the
upper layer of the atmosphere from space, it must have had a more fierce tug on the tether than expected, or it simply couldnt hold that much juice.
Since I am no scientist and I wasnt there, I have to go off of what NASA said.
Pre-Mission Info
Post-Mission Info
Of course, it was this same mission that many claim to see UFOs floating in the background, but that is beyond where I can go atm.
Fun Facts:
A bolt of lightning can reach temperatures of roughly 30,000 kelvins / 53,540 degrees Fahrenheit.
The sun, on its surface is 6,000 kelvins / 10,340 degrees Fahrenheit.
The sun's core radiates plasma temperatures of about 15 million kelvins / 27 million degrees Fahrenheit.
Above the sun's surface, its atmosphere exceeds temperatures of 500,000 kelvins / 900,000 degrees Fahrenheit
=========================================
So we can say that lightning is 5x hotter than the surface of the sun. If Lightning produces anti matter, wouldnt the same hold true for the sun,
which boils at much hotter temperatures above it's surface and in it's core? So antimatter could be all around us. It seems only to take super hot
temperatures to break matter down in it's simplest forms, as is true with stars being the seeds of new stars and planets. So this whole time, while
were searching for this illusive stuff that makes the universe expand fast and faster as we go... wow, it was right here all the time. It just takes
really hot temperatures to make it. Maybe dark matter is just the charcoal left after the log has been burned past an ember. The purest carbon, if
that's possible. Id hate to say that the answer and key was pure blinding light all the while.
I'm done, you're welcome to have it back now
You brought up some food for thought and I hated to see it go to waste, even though I cant give you a thumbs up or down on the UFO thing. I simply
dont know what to believe, as my own experiances with were always without answers.
Thanks and Great Find!
