I have read the article and as I stated Three times now I dissagree with him, the national guard is your state militia. I sometimes wonder if some of you just have childish gun envy that keeps you from being logical.

I find the deffinition still pertains to the document the same way it has been interpreted through the years.

If unorganized untrained unregulated people were able to get there hands on military hardware it would be total chaos in our society. It would come down to who has more money to what personal arsenal they aquire.

Most Americans understand this but there will all be a few that are going to complain that they can't play GI joe.

If you want to be part of your states defense then do what others have done and join the NG and go through the training. I see civvilians the same as children in this matter. If you give a child a gun they will use it sooner or later. Same would apply to give a untrained undisiplined civilian some explosives or RPG ect ect they will use it.

Even being in the military we had strict rules dealing with weapons but what you are proposeing is just handing this stuff out.
In a world you propose you better be the richest person in your town because whoever owns the biggest gun persay has the most say. Unless you are proposeing a hand out where the Govt supplies every household with the same amount of weaponry.

GET REAL.

So that is why the US had a national guard throughout its history?

Oh, that's right. The National Guard was created by a congressional act in 1903.

The words of the founding fathers speak for themselves.

It matters not what you think, thankfully.

So with the idea that a "well regulated militia" should be there to stop a Tyrannical Govt, how does that work?

If, as you profess, the militia is the State Guard, then I guess the State would go against the Fed?
Or, what happens when the State Govt is the Tyrant?

No, sorry, you loose. Don't pass Go, don't collect $200.

The militia term was used in relation to the citizen/people having the ability to go against the Govt (Local, State Federal) and get rid of the Tyrant when they come into power.

What you prescribe to relying on Govt to do the job that is clearly defined as the work of the citizen when it becomes necessary.

Great thread! My liberal friends think I'm a conservative NUT because I know that our 2nd amendment guarantees my right to keep/bear arms. Oddly my conservative friends think I'm a NUT with my 'love affair" with the 4th amendment... odd how both sides pick and choose...

For the life of me I cannot fathom how anyone could think that 2nd amendment is about hunting or some sort of organized force. Are schools, public and private, so bad that they're not teach vocabulary or comprehension? The average citizen owning a gun is what keeps the security of a free state as our forefathers knew the easiest way to enslave a nation was to disarm the nation.
