I keep hearing people talking about Kool Aid on this site but we don't have it over here in the UK so I'm not sure what it is.
I know it's some sort of drink. Is it alcoholic? Why has it got such a bad reputation? Is there some sort of conspiracy regarding Kool Aid?

I've tried searching for Kool Aid threads but I've not had much luck finding out exactly what it is and why it's so bad.

Thanks.

Yes Kool Aid is a drink here in the US. Its just red sugar water drink.

Supposedly the people in the Jonestown Massacre drank Kool Aid laced with cyanide (or something like that) and all died.

Although i think there is more to that story than we know about.

Also, forgive me if I misinterpreted your post but the expression people use about "drinking the Kook Aid," refers to people believing an idea that is in opposition from there own. i.e. believing something that is weird or ....well, like lots of stuff we all talk about here on ATS mainstream people would refer to it as "drinking the Kook aid."

It's believing something without examining the facts. So, yes a lot of people on this site drink the Kool-Aid. Watch my post be off topic soon.

back to haight ashbury in the sixties and ken keasy...when '___' was new they put it in kool aid (sugar and food coloring and flavor) and called it the electric kool aid acid test. The Grateful Dead were the house band.

wish i could have been there

but the reference goes back to those events...

drink the kool aid and crazy things happen!!!

be good

I think it is mostly in reference to the Jonestown massacre, the idea that one believes what they are told, even if it's to their own demise, or totally wrong, like the official 911 report, they are drinking the Kool Aid.

But yeah, it a popular sugar flavored drink marketed to children to get them ready for diabetes.

Yep,

As other posters have relayed "Drinking the Kool Aid" is a term used when describing people who do not think for themselves and or go along with the "belief" possibly to their determent.

See the website "Huffington Post" as a good example of Kool Aid drinkers... LOL

Ah right. I get it now. Thanks guys. Sorry for my ignorance. I'd heard of the Jonestown Massacre, but never knew about Kool Aid.

I wasn't sure it was a metaphor or not. At first I thought it must be some sort of "dumbing down" drink when I heard people talking about it. So the Kool Aid without cyanide is OK?

If you like sugar water. Basically, it typically comes in the form of powder packets. You pour it into water, add a bunch of sugar, stir, and whammo, a cool drink for the kiddies. In my generation, this was pretty much the go to drink moms gave kids....prior to more health-conscious choices.....
