Russian jails may be worse by comparison, but that still doesn't mean American jails are a great place. That's like telling a rape victim to cheep-up because she/he wasn't killed. Death is worse by comparison, but damn, rape is still pretty bad.

In other words:

Russian jail = Death
American jail = Rape

Actually, that last bit is a lot truer that I thought at first....

It's racist to not be sexually attracted to black women? God damn it, I just can't win....

Also, I must say, I think it's fairly disgusting that you think it's a trivial matter that this guy was strip searched for no apparent reason. What if someone stuck a finger in your butt? I bet you'd be pretty damn pissed, especially so if they had no reason to be in there in the first place. Think before you start trashing someone just because you don't agree with them.

One more thing, after rereading my post on page 4(about me being thrown in jail for no good reason) I want to make clear that I do not hate cops. I hate easily corrupted people and I hate people who don't take the protection of others seriously, especially so when they are employed (by my damn taxes, no less) to do so.

It's a shame you have to point to typos to make yourself feel superior.
I am not contradicting myself. Police Officers have discretionary powers, if we didn't we would be bound by the exactl letter of the law and you would get a ticket for going one mile over the speed limit. I give about 1 ticket for every 5 vehicles I stop and that is because of those dicretionary powers. Trust me, you don't want to see those powers go away. I don't care about the guy with the roach, I care about the guy with the 2 kilos and if I'm nice to the guy with roach it will go a long way toward getting the guy with the kilos. You think we are buttholes, but out of a 100 lawbreakers we come in contact with, we prosecute about 30%; and not to worry, the court lets most of them go.
Seeashrink

I didn't point to a typo. I highlighted that an educated man such as yourself couldn't properly navigate the quote function. And lets not try to take the moral highground here, it was you who suggested I had no education, no?

You have no discretionary powers. Stop giving tickets and see how long you have a job for. [snip]

Jails aren't meant to be great places, they are where the lowest form of life end up. And I was really meaning to differentiate between jail and prison. In a Russian jail, you can see many people who have been beaten by the police, being bribed right in front of you, women sometimes sexually humiliated in front of everyone else, false charges if no money is given...... and this is common practice in Russia, and "accepted" and actually why, I think, the big cities are so safe in Russia, because Russians know what jail IS.

Prison is a different thing altogether. I would rather be in a Russian prison than an American prison. At least in a Russian prison there isn't gang wars and senseless violence among the inmates. It might be harsher, but the inmates tend to treat each other with respect.

You're right, I'll leave the high road, [snip]. You have no clue of what you are talking about. Yes, we have discretionary powers, and you should be glad that we do. Maybe if you are intelligent enough to type you are intelligent enough to aproach a police officer and ask him to explain "discretionary power".
And while we're talking about the "high road" you implied that I'm a pig and dizzy with circular reasoning. But, then again, you never claimed to be on the high road did you?
I just noticed where you're from. A country where guns have been taken away. No wonder you have the opinion of the police that you have, you live under socialism. You're right, your officers have no discretionary powers. They just do what they're told. Why are you even trying to comment on this thread. YOU should be scared of the cops and the government, but then again, you folks have already been whipped. Sheeeesh!!

Please refrain from personal attacks on your fellow members. I will be reviewing this thread for other infractions and removing them as well.

Continue.

No problem, but sometimes you have to call a duck a duck. Also, I'm not trying to argue with you, I'm generally pretty tame. But what is the difference between an insult and an implied insult? It's not like I called him an SOB or anything. I've been insulted much worse on ATS. You have to have a tough skin to be on here. Deny ignorance.

I personally wish the cop would have used his whole arm....make you think next time before you think about using drugs. Wanna be mr tough guy to a cop? Your going to live a few hellacious hours at minimum. You should be glad americas LEO are as great as they are. If you were in the desert in" our" jurisdiction, your miranda rights would be as worthless as obama...and if you popped off at the mouth you wouldn't make it to jail. That's how we live.

Hey Sniper
Don't mind me, I'm just here causing trouble
. I seem to always end up in these cop threads even after vowing to quit messing with them. People see videos and read stories about some bad cops and they think that we are all the same. What they don't realize is that it is the bad ones that get all the attention. They are the ones that are videoed or written about, while the thousands that go about their jobs helping people, and risking their lives on a dailey basis without incident are never mentioned. Add to that the fact that everyone thinks that they know the law...too much TV.
Take care my friend, keep your head down.

You say your a cop and yet you suggest that the Miranda rights are not required to be read? Yeah, troll much?

The police must advise suspects of their "Miranda Rights" - their right to remain silent, their right to an attorney, and the right to an appointed attorney if they are unable to afford counsel - prior to conducting a custodial interrogation. If a suspect is not in police custody (i.e., "under arrest"), the police do not have to warn him of his rights.

I think you need to read a little closer. I don't recall the op providing any evidence that he was "arrested" Being told what you are arrested for would be a good clue.
seeashrink pointed out, correctly, that if he was not arrested, no Miranda required.

Police are not legally allowed to search you without a warrant if you aren't under arrest. If the OP's part about being strip searched is true, then we can assume he was placed under arrest. If he was not placed under arrest first then the cops acted illegally anyways.

ive been arrested several times throughout my life and the very last time i went they did the iris scan on me. they said you only have to have it done once in your life. that scared the # out of me and needless to say, i have not been back. ive been a good girl and now i have a 5 year old little boy and i am all he has. everyone makes mistakes, and im not afraid to admit what mine are. everyone has a skeleton in their closet so dont ever let anyone judge you. I feel for you for all you have been through and i am sorry that you had to endure what you did. If you ever need someone to talk to, you can always shoot me a U2U.

So correct my friend...I have a degree in criminal justice....people think just because you watch tv and watch cnn, that all cops are bad. There will always be bad apples in any society, but narrowing a whole group as one negative group because of a few bad apples is ridiculous. Without the brave leos we have, this country would be anarchy.

The problem with cops, and all authority, is the lack of accountability.
For example, let's say a group of cops mistake me for someone else, they burst into my house and start screaming at my family. I come out of the bedroom with my Mossberg and POP POP POP...., then draw my 380, and, pop pop pop...(lowercase but still deadly), and one of their guys gets a shot in and I am wounded but there are two dying bodies in my hall, and they fall back because they really weren't expect this sh*t.
So, where are we?
We are in DEEP SH*t!
My family will not leave the house alive. No matter what caused this, I will be guilty of stretching out two cops.

My daughter says, um, thanks dad. I say, why? Because they are the good guys?
And so it goes....

Well, you seem to be around 26 or 27 years old and a fine upstanding young man.
So you got arrested...again, for possession of drugs. You ran your mouth to the cops and one decided to have a little fun with you. Obviously you can dish it out but can't take it in return. As far as the strip search, druggies...uh, that'ed be you...are always suit casing drugs into the jail to sell/trade. If you don't know what that means its putting drugs up your rear end...hence the squat and cough.
How dare there be laws in the land. How dare there be consequences for breaking those laws. To think that someone could be in trouble for violating someone else's private property (trespassing). And all those other petty crimes.
As far as you being too intelligent for the officers and them not understanding inflation, ect. Do you have any idea how many babbling druggies they had already listened to that day?
So you don't like us mean ol' stinkin cop pigs......well here's a thought....don't break the law.
You are so intelligent, then you know that drugs are illegal, you know there are consequences for breaking those laws. Whats the problem and who put you in the situatiion you were in?........YOU DID. Take your lumps, learn from your mistake, and clean up your act.
Seeashrink.

Well maybe if cops did the right thing and stopped using "it's illegal" as an excuse and stopped arresting people for victimless crimes and stopped extorting them for thier money they might stop getting the hate. Maybe if they stopped trying to mindlessly justify thier actions and asked themselves what man or woman did this person harm that they would have claim against said person instead of mindlessly going along with man made statutes they might be respected.

I mean for god sake you're arresting people for a friggen plant! Do you realize how absurd that is? And extorting people for things like not coming to full stop at a stop sign when no one else is around and a host of other ridiculous things. Who does it harm? Who brought a claim of harm against him? NO ONE!

Maybe if cops by the thousands started joining organizations like LEAP Law Enforcement Against Prohibition Then people might actually believe most cops are decent people with a few bad apples like I used to. But I don't anymore as they more and more crack down and extort honest people for victimless crimes that are not harming anyone and have an "us or them" attitude.

And you wonder why people have an attitude with cops. Your arrogance like you are doing nothing wrong and this kid should just knuckle under if he wants to be a good person is typical. I am 52 years old and when some snot nose punk cop in his twenties pulls me over at 11 o'clock at night because I didn't signal turning out of my subdivision with not a car in sight anywhere for miles and gives me attitude after I have been working may ass off all day and am going to get something I need on the job the next day I just want to get out of the car and have shall we say a motivational seminar with the punk and teach him some manners. Unfortunately this is all too common and a far cry from when I was younger and everyone knew the nieghborhood cops.

I would really like to still believe most are decent guys doing a tough job but I don't anymore. I just see mostly arrogant punks who think they are above the average Joe with no respect and no conscience anymore. Maybe if more of you started realizing that and doing something to change it you would get the respect you think you deserve. Unless that happens you are heading for a serious backlash eventually some day. Hopefully I am not around to see it.

Anyways this cop makes me get naked after searching all my garments and I had to bend over and squat.

Why do you think they had him squat?

Furthermore, in the OP statements:

Of course they did charge me with intent to sell and there is no evidence of the paraphernalia

What was that you were saying?

Squat and Cough is a means of detecting contraband hidden in the rectum.
In NYC the cops will charge you with possession if they can find any type of remnant of joint or paraphernalia. . It could be obvious to any observer that any evidence could be days old and/or clearly not connected to the individual. Valid for an arrest. However, the judge will through BS like that out. The goal of such petty things is not for conviction, but to find, fine and catalog the population.

excellent advice... star for you

you sound like an attorney!!

I am not an attorney. Just an uneducated black man living in America. Being such, and the nature of what I used to do (Above board and legal) I have had police contact personally or on behalf of clients in most of these United States. I was born and raised in NYC.

What the OP experienced is typical in NYC. It goes along with the stop and frisk movement they have going.
Stop N Frisk was limited to those who looked like me for years. We complained about how it infringed our rights of unreasonable search. Then they threw up the numbers of how many "bad guys" they were catching with drugs and guns. And the people say, nice, keep up the good work. As Ive said many times before, people like Malcom and Martin tried to tell the world, even clowns like Jesse and Sharpton tried. Nobody payed attention because it was us.
Now that they have had decades honing their skills, changing the laws and oiling the machine, branching out embracing the "rainbow". The people are shocked and amazed at how these things can happen today.
How can a simple traffic stop turn into days in jail. How could calling the police for help get me beat up and arrested by the police. All the videos on YouTube, all the blogs posts, wahoo, good for you.
This type of thing has been happening all the time where I live, where I have been. I've seen it, lived it, tasted it, felt it. So I have a keen and unique knowledge of how things work and how to avoid the problems.
To the OP what you went through like I said, you won't do any time, or get in any trouble. They got what they wanted from you. YOU. They needed to update their biometrics on you, thats all.

Im not baiting anyone with my comments about race and my opinion. Don't waste your time with diatribe towards what is my life.
