NASA has been able to correct a mistake they made 30 years ago
to me i think this is a step forward
funny thing is the new missions will have much better tech
to test for organic compounds, organics and life

yes the salts in the martian soil gave them strange results
so a similar soil on earth was used as a base line for comparison
when they realized the salt content problem they required a soil with similar compounds to
re interperet the results
the earth soil was for base line readings
question is why was this not done 30 years ago?

the lead scientist on the organics project was sure NASA had found life
he was upset by NASA and their contamination statements

chances are life was found on mars 30 years ago

after having samples mixed with it

That might be good news for NASA. Are they trying to con the US into another space race. HOw much was wasted on the race to the moon?

well if there was a reason to go back
life on mars would spur the interest of the people and allow them to spend more money
but i think the science is more important than the funding concerns expressed in previous posts
if there is life to be found we do need to find it
the results to this day have interested me
i always thought there was some thing fishy about the way NASA disregaurded the results

I'm a firm believer that there is still some form of organic life on Mars, probably microbial.

I read an article a year or so ago about the reason why Mars lost it's atmosphere, it has to do with the magnetosphere. Mars still has a partial magnetic field and some scientists believe that (that's) worst then no magnetic field cause that's actually hasting the loss of Mars's atmosphere. Could this be that Nasa is trying to come clean before others find the organics also. There is definitely more to this story in the Nasa files. They have been keepring this little secret all of these years and now they have to tell all that they found it first. Look behind the news for the real news.

The reason the realization and admission that organic substances were found on Mars in 1976 is so important: Their absence was the basis for disregarding the positive results of the 'chicken soup' tests for life. Given that organics were found, the case for life on Mars just got much stronger. I remember the mission and the positive test results. An announcement that life had been discovered on Mars was very nearly made by NASA in 1976. The expectation that this announcement would be made was all over the news at the time. Ross

There is a decent book, done from a scientist's point of view, that we have already found life on Mars. The book's conclusion is that life outside Earth has already been proven based on previous scientific experiments.

In my opinion, Mars will be found to have microbial life and possibly ruins or fossils from more complex life.

Yeah, they are starting to build infrastructure... Mars is becoming a colony. Not my idea of a summer home.
