Hey all.
June this year im taking off for 12 months, backpacking around the world.
From Thailand all the way up, over and around and ending in London.
Below are a list of sites I'm basing this trip around

Stalingrad
Chernobyl
Pyramids
Trinity Test Site
Mt Everest
Vietnam War Sites
Korean DMZ
Pompeii
Gallipoli
Jerusalem
Normandy
Nuremberg
Berlin
Bastogne
Berchtesgaden
Western Front
Hindenburg crash site
Titanic wharf
Chinese Wall
Ground Zero
Pearl Harbor
Where JFK was assassinated
Where Arch duke Ferdinand was assassinated
Where MLK Was assassinated
Napoleon Tomb
My Lai
Tibet
Terracotta army
Cambodia Killing Fields
Munich marches
Auschwitz
Warsaw ghetto
Minsk

Obviously there's a theme of WAR, and events than changed the world.

Is there any other sites I haven't thrown onto my list that people perceive as being critical to mankinds past?

Thanks,
Jon.

Great list...

Only cool place I can think of that you didn't mention is Lenin's Tomb in Moscow.

Sounds like your gonna have an awesome trip!

Problem is I've been through Hiroshima and Nagasaki, twice. Once on the anniversary and already have documented/photographed it to the extreme.
See:

I might make my way to Japan, and pass through, but that's it.

Lenin's tomb. good one. I'l add that for sure.

im hoping sometime while im still in my youth i can take time off to see the world without having to join the military.
at this point i dont care about a career or long term investments i just want to go and see as much as the planet as i can. i want to be able to experience all of the cultures for myself. i think everyone should take time to go away and absorb what the world has.

Wow, seems an incredible trip if you can pull it off. Did I miss Rome on your itinerary? I saw Pompeii, and that's close. Vatican City? London? Paris?
