Hello all.
First, i hope this is proper place for this, but couldnt find better section, feel free to move, or delete if its found to be of no value. Second, its my first thred, so hope there are no violations. Third my english is not top notch, still learning

This circle shaped thing appeared on my head after being photographed few days ago on new years party. It doesnt seem to me as lens flare, but iam not an expert, i did little search on the net and couldnt find any lens flare similar to this. This one looks more organic to me, almost like pupil of an eye. But it could be some sort of reflection from glasses as well.

I didnt do anything to that picture, so it should be in original state if u open it in maximum size.
-click download button on the right side, it will open in browser in full size. Have no better way of sharing right now.

anyone finds it familiar? hope iam not just excited about nothing

It could be dust or dirt on the internal part of the camera. It's difficult to say without testing it. It could also be aperture flare.. Are you suggesting paranormal? It could be, but from what I read about "orbs" is that if it was paranormal it would be a uneven circle. If it was a flare or dust. It would be a perfect circle. ive seen the exact same thing in a video about ufos in space. You had to rent it. I think it was from dust. Sorry
I wish it were paranormal. I guess I can't rule it out though.

What u see is call an 'orb' They appear in pictures out of the blue,I noted this when theres a lot of kids together, they vary in size and color. At this moment nobody has an explanation to this. Some people believe theyre ghosts,or energy manifestation from ones body.

It could be an orb. Did you look at the other pictures that was taken that time to see if the same orb appeared in them at the same spot on the lens. If they did you may have a problem with the lens being dirty. I am no expert. A friend of mine had pictures from a game camera and I noticed what looked like orbs. I blew them up and saw a face in two of the orbs. These were vivid faces, no imagination required.. In the other one a cross, not a chiristian one. I showed my friend and it shocked him to the core. He is not into this kind of stuff so it did rock his old world.

I am just going to throw this out there for consideration - was there a CD laying on the table or near by? I see it has a center hole and it could be a light reflection from the CD - just my 2 cents.

thx for replies,
It was definetly just on this one picture from the many taken that evening, it amazed even the friend taking it ,so it should not be dust on camera...Some orb thing was on my mind, but never investigated it so far, probably will.

It was taken during quite merry party time. More details coming to mind:
I managed to spill 3 or 4 glass of carrefully prepared glasses of absinth infront of everyone that evening,
this was taken imedidiately after one of the spills, was feeling quite ashamed about that. I have a "talent" for that since i have neural disorder that makes my body jerk from time to time. But never experienced such a row .. and in the end i was feeling like its not even me doing it. Its my goal now, not to take self so seriously, so i took it as a leeson in that.I wasnt exceptionally drunk either.

I was wearing Atlantis ring for a second day, i recieved it day before from a friend as gift, and was examinating its possible influence on self from time to time.

Last thing that made me curious was image number.
The original image name in camera, was IMG_00023.JPG and 23 is my luckymost favorite number, ...my birthday number too.
I am not making any conclusion, but there are some funny coincidences..

2crazydaisy that would fit, but cant remember seeing any cd being on or near that table, We played music from notebook in different corner of the room, there was another table so cd would be rather there. And 99percent of music came drom laptops hardrive or mobile phones.. so there wasnt number of cds around the room

The only value of such a photograph is purely from the "unusual but technical" point of view.
Irrespective of what the physical and "real life" explanation may be to account for such an effect, you can most certainly rest assured that in no way is it a manifestation of psychic effects, ghostly apparitions, orbs, etc, etc.

It really looks cool when you zoom in on just the thing once I saved the original picture. Looks like something you`d see in a microscope. Don`t know what it could be but very interesting with it`s circles and things.

Yes, thats what i was thinking. Best for possible identification would be to find something similar that would match it. I was looking into lens flares but they look much more simple usually, cd reflection seems more possible but just as far as rational explanation goes

edit
there is quite an effort to debunk orbs www.rense.com... dust particle in front of camera lit by flash sounds reasonable, but still not sure about the organic like structure

I am no expert and I find the image quite interesting however I am suspect of the many bright pinpointed flash reflections seen in the image. ( i.e. bottles and sunglasses etc.)

Oddly the image artifact shape reminded me of the 'orbs' in the NASA STS Tether incident. Upon reviewing several threads on ATS I came across this image by ATS member depthoffield used to illustrate the combination of defocused pinpoint light.

Naturally that would make sense if the 'orb' was not in plane as other subject matter in image which is all in focus so I continue to be puzzled. (Unless it was a floating dust particle extremely close to lens.)

Hopefully one of the many experts here can shed some light. Cool photo.

They show up in funny places.

cool picture, kind of looks like an old doctor photograph. anyway I am thinking moisture, with the liquid on the table the camera picked up a reflection somehow. I am thinking this direction because of the smaller circle to one side of the larger circle and the rings in it make me think liquid. just my thoughts, thanks for posting it is a cool photo

There is a perfectly good explanation for "orbs"...they are dust specks. I've played around with infrared illuminated video (lots of time spent trying out different scenarios) and can definitely say that orbs are just infrared reflections off dust particles.

Digital cameras (video or still...doesn't matter) are much more sensitive to infrared than film cameras, and most of them have autofocus which involves sending out an infrared beam before taking the picture. Dust tends to reflect infrared better than it does visible light, which is why you don't see the dust.

Looks like simple lends flare to me. It can manifest in many ways, such as starbursts, rings, or circles in a row across the image or view.

I get those orbs all the time when I take pictures using flash. I found this on wikipedia:

"Orb artifacts are captured during low-light instances where the camera's flash is used, such as at night or underwater. The artifacts are especially common with compact or ultra-compact cameras, where the short distance between the lens and the built-in flash decreases the angle of light reflection to the lens, directly illuminating the aspect of the particles facing the lens and increasing the camera's ability to capture the light reflected off normally sub-visible particles. The orb artifact can result from retroreflection of light off solid particles (e.g., dust, pollen), liquid particles (water droplets, especially rain) or other foreign material within the camera lens.

The image artifacts usually appear as either white or semi-transparent circles, though may also occur with whole or partial color spectrums, purple fringing or other chromatic aberration. "

The combination of a flash and digital photography causes "orbs" to appear. I have numerous photos with "orbs" in them from flash shots. All it takes is a smooth surface somewhere in the room.

Most paranormal investigators dismiss still photo orbs now days. Video clip orbs are a different story, but even then, the orb in question has to exhibit "intelligent behavior".

u mean like this?

this is another photo i took in 2004 when i found this exact doctors equipment when visiting my friends cottage, it belonged to his grandpa, who was dentist, got few more interesting "artifacts" from there

thx to others for their critical view upon the matter, but still, what would cause the organic look of the dust particle if it wasnt microscoped during the process, or if it was lens flare.. it just doesnt look like multiple reflection to me? and why would there be hole in the middle if it was just "ball" shaped dust?
