Why did Rahm Emanuel really leave White House?

Before he left word was starting to get out that he was unhappy and would be going. There were several reasons for it as highlighted in these articles.

It is well known in Washington that arguments have developed between pragmatic Mr Emanuel, a veteran in Congress where he was known for driving through compromises, and the idealistic inner circle who followed Mr Obama to the White House.

He seems a very driven man and one of his drives is to "get things done". He was frustrated that the idealism of many in the administration (including Obama at times it seems) stood in the way of actually getting some of the things they wanted accomplished.

He was becoming more and more frustrated with the administration while catching heat for the agenda not progressing. This was born out in this account of a heated meeting.

The friction was laid bare in August when Mr. Emanuel showed up at a weekly strategy session featuring liberal groups and White House aides. Some attendees said they were planning to air ads attacking conservative Democrats who were balking at Mr. Obama's health-care overhaul.

"F—ing retarded," Mr. Emanuel scolded the group, according to several participants. He warned them not to alienate lawmakers whose votes would be needed on health care and other top legislative items.

It is true he wanted more time with his family. But he was also becoming highly stressed, and very frustrated with the administration.

White House officials are considering tapping William Daley, the former commerce secretary and brother of Chicago's mayor, for a senior administration position, most likely chief of staff, people familiar with the situation said Monday.

President Obama is expected to begin acting on staffing recommendations from his interim chief of staff, Pete Rouse, as soon as he returns Tuesday from his vacation in Hawaii. Rouse conducted a review of White House operations in the hope of revamping a system that saw frequent breakdowns between its political, policy and communications shops last year.

Pretty mind numbing isn't it? Its all just falling into place. Rahm is magically deemed a Chicago resident and is the #1 candidate for Chicago Mayor, Obama will probably base his 2012 election campaign out of Chicago with Axlerod at the helm and now this.
