I guess my dream about having a harley 4runner came true. Grinds teeth. Thanks for the reply. Such an odd situation. Took my mother out for a nice meal and a movie and end up missing the spleen to my 4runner. WEIRD. Like I said before I got lucky because I had some hardcore money inside the vehicle.

I think I will take a picture tomorrow and post it.

"Test Pipes" are illegal. If you got pulled over and the officer just happened to notice you were running without a cat, you can get hit with EPA fines. Not pretty. Your toy will run fine without the cat, but it's illegal, and you're adding pollution.

The O2 sensor should be up a bit higher, closer to the manifold. If you put on long-pipe headers, they probably have a bung located on the "merge" pipe, basically as close to the engine as possible, but far enough downstream to get an average mix of all cylinders. There may be another small pipe that they cut as well... it's been a few years, so I can't remember for sure if the 4-runners had Oxygen injection tubes (injects air into the cat to help oxidation of the CO2 and O2... and, if you replace the pulley on the injector, it dilutes the exhaust system and is an old hot-rodder's trick for squeezing by emissions testing
).

And, DAMN!!! $4000?!? Merry F'in Christmas to you! Wow... that hurts me to even try to comprehend, considering that I only really make enough to live week to week. Sorry for both losses. So much for the spirit of giving, eh? Apparently it has become the spirit of taking. I hate going to stores anytime between T-day and C-day just because of the greed and insanity... wholly illogical thinking (But, it was on sale on Black Friday... why can't I get it on sale now? I WANT MY UMPALOOMPA!!!(2 weeks AFTER black friday)).

Whaaaaaaa...... Where did the 4k come from. I'm in Oklahoma and from what I heard I can get away with the test pipe! I'll definitely stay away from California.

Edit to add thanks for the 411 where the O2 sensors located. My Tiburon had 2, one close to the engine and the other after the catalytic converter.

Edit to add more. I looked under the vehicle and noticed a hose that must have been attached to the converter just hanging loose.

That's the hose I was talkin about... about 3/8"-1/2" inside diameter.

I'm from Wyoming... we will probably be the last to start emissions. It is federally mandated to have a catalytic converter installed on a vehicle that originally came with one. If you are putting dual pipes on your '81 Camaro, to be legal you can run dual cats, but in ANY of the 50 states it is illegal to remove the cat.

Not joking, I do believe that if they were to catch the guy that cut it off, they could turn him over to the EPA for knowingly and purposely removing a functional catalytic converter from a vehicle, even though it wasn't his. That's why I had to watch my own butt when it came to my friends' rods. I modded my friend's Prelude by hollowing out the cat and inserting a tube to keep exhaust flowing smooth. I've also done a couple dual jobs on the side for friends, but my practice is that I've made the requirement that I see no cat... it's gone before I even look at the system to give them a quote. I still do this whenever I do exhaust systems for friends. Only reason I did the pipe trick was, well... it's my best friend, lol. I wasn't worried about him ratting me out, and we don't have emissions up there.

Basically, no matter where you go, you are prone to visual inspection. I'm not condoning anything, but, ya know... if you can find an empty cat at the junkyard or something... buy a 12-pack for your buddy to weld it up for ya, and you're good to go. If you ever get popped, then "What?!? No freakin wonder the place I took it to was so much cheaper! Crap..." and hope they pity you for getting gipped.
