I live and work in a resort town in canada, we get people from everywhere around the world, so on my day off i went to skating with santa, my daughter was so happy, was a lovely winter day. So we get there, get some hot coco, say merry xmas to everybody and just have a fun time, until i guess i said merry xmas to the wrong guy, he turns around and tells me he dosent believ in christ, and santa isint real with anger in is voice and eyes. So i said hey buddy, calm down, theres kids around, he then slurs something i didint get, and tells me xmas is for idiots.

By this time im mad, my kid is in tears, and im gonna punch this guy lol, my wife grabed me and told me to calm down, which i did.

I know its a made up holiday, i know its not really jesus birthday, but geez just keep it to yourself

just had to say something, just to make me feel good, sorry no offense to nobody

I think this person who did this to you is wrong!

I don't believe in any religions but I love christmas & do not like because of it religious value. This person has has not realised Christmas or better named Xmas has gone beyond religion. True it is a "Hallmark Holiday" that has been fully commercialised, but it is a very special time of year that means many things to many people!.

Christamas is about watching the joy on the kids faces when they open presents. it's the joy of receiving a gift, the fact that someone actually thinks highly enough of you to give you a gift. Its about eating lots of good food & drinking alcohol you don't normally consume. it's about relaxing with your family & friends after a hard year working. it's about reflecting how the year has gone & what you can do next year to make life better for you & all of those you care about!. Little religious value!

He is very lucky you did not hit him as calling you an idiot is "fighting words". Then he made your kids cry!. Santa is a fantasy but they are kids they need fantasy before the harsh world of reality sets in as they get older.

So it is wrong to say that to people!. just my opinion! This person needs to see Christmas for what it has become - More than just a religious holiday!

Agnostics & Atheists can also enjoy Christmas for the reasons mentioned above! As we say in Australia, this person needs to "Pull their head in"!

Why do you say he was a tourist? There are lots of bah humbug Canadians too. I am one of them, but I do try and keep my opinions to myself most of the time and not spoil anyone else' fun unless they go overboard.

I hate the whole "presents" thing as it is surely just brainwashing by the media making people think it is something you have to do. But there is nothing wrong with people getting into a "giving" mood, being jolly and warm to others. That is all good and I partake of it fully.

Ho Ho Ho!

You could have whispered to your kid as you walked off...."See there!?!?!! THAT'S one of the GRINCHES!" or "Don't mind him, he is mad because he was naughty & isn't getting anything for christmas"

We've never told our children about santa claus coming, they've always just found gifts under the tree. I don't think (personally, not judging anyone) that it's a good idea to promote belief in imaginary figures (a more harsh description would be called 'lying to your kids') only for them to find out later on that it isn't true.
With that in mind, my kids STILL BELIEVE IN SANTA CLAUS! They learned it from school, and the other kids at school. I find that rather ironic because I've ALWAYS told them it was a made up story, and now they think I'm being untruthful with them about it. I've not tried to convince them otherwise, I think they HAVE to believe in something magical when they're young - the fantasyland gives them a sort of hope and/or comfort - or at least wonder.

You didnt need to do anything to that guy, life has already beaten you to it.

He sounds like a nasty and hate filled person, and while you are enjoying the holidays with your little one, he will be wallowing in his own bitterness.

The best way to pay someone like this back is to pretend that they dont even exist, and have as much fun for you and your family as possible.

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear this. Totally not right.

I know how it is too, I don't think I need to tell you how Jews get blamed for just about everything. On a daily basis.

But guess what? We are NOT bad people, we do NOT control the world LOL, and we even do Christmas too - not just for the "Holiday" but at many reform Temples - Jesus is looked upon with much favor, Jews For Jesus and all that, lots of us belong to the Methodist (Christian) church as well.

At the Temple, many speakers of all religions are invited - From Muslim to Mormon to Baptist, for unity and understanding, there's now a Kwanzaa celebration too. (I myself am not so religious anymore. Now belong to the Church of Slackers
)

And - we say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and what ever is appropriate to whom you are addressing.

Only ignorant and angry people are hateful. The guy sounds like he was drunk actually. I hope you were able to explain to your kids that some people are just jerks and they should brush it off.

There is a time and a place for debate. A Christmas party or event is not it.

Shalom (Peace) to you and yours

Hope the rest of the Holiday Season will be happy for you.
