I'm actually surprised that kids are still doing this. I can remember when it became the latest thing all the cool kids were doing back in Jr High. That was 35 years ago for me.

What it involves is kids basically knocking each other (or themselves) out. There are many ways to do this and I'm not going to go into any of them here as all can be very dangerous.

Brandon Stine, 11, Dies after Playing Pass Out Game

I guess there really is nothing new under the sun when it comes to human behavior. It pretty much stopped at my school when the ambulance had to be called because a 12yeard girl didn't wake up after her friend did it to her. If you have a kid you suspect may be into this let them know it can easily kill them or one of their friends. Its nothing to play with.

I don't understand, is this like holding your breath for extended periods of time?

I used to love this game. It was the gateway for many other thrills.
You take chances in life, some pay off, some don't.
Tis a shame.

Pretty much any way you can envision causing a stoppage of blood / oxygen to the brain long enough to render someone else (or yourself) unconscious was used (at least by the kids I knew that did it back in the day).

Wow I used to do this too about 15 years ago... Didn't think kids were still doing it, I stopped after we passed out a kid in one of the bathrooms and he banged his head on a heater.... He didn't know it happened and he wasn't hurt but right then I knew how dangerous it was...

Chances are if you knew some idiot doing something stupid 100 years ago there is an idiot out there right now doing that very thing.

And he thinks it's "new." Got news for ya, stupidity has been around since the first moment of creation.

I remember doing this (or something similar) in my Middle School years during parties... more like "gathering of friends" as there was no alcohol, so it wasn't really a party until high school
But I digress.

We would crouch down in the catcher position (baseball), close our eyes, and take quick, deep breaths for about fifteen seconds. Then, somebody standing behind us would tell us to stand up, at which point we would cross our arms over our chest. Immediately after this, the individual behind us would hug us from behind, and squeez us tightly.

Stupid, stupid game. I remember the majority of the time, people would act like they passed out because it hardly ever worked. One time it actually worked on me, and it scared the s**t out of me, so I refused to take part from there on out. It was only popular for a few months, and I think this was during my 7th grade year, so we were all immature, naive 13 and 14 year olds.

Yeah - that's about the age group it was at my school for the most part. Though a few younger ones were involved like the 12 year old I mentioned.

From the article it appears like it may be around the same age groups involved today.

Honestly, it was really just an excuse for the guys to hug the girls, or the girls to hug the guys. It often led to other things, like truth or dare or spin the bottle. Still though, I had one experience that really frightened me, so I tended to wait till the better games started from that point on

I have seen this game played when I was that age. I never played it myself though. When I was that age, it just seemed stupid to make yourself pass out on purpose.... Well, it still seems stupid.

The game was never all that popular around here when I was growing up. Every now and then a kid would learn about it one way or another and then talk some one into doing it.... Sometimes it didn't work. Sometimes it did.... Most of the kids it worked on, did not want to do it anymore after that.

Kids do stupid things. Things that they look back upon when they are older and say, "What the hell was I thinking?". But this game is different. It is not like sneaking off and having a cigarette. It is not like skipping school. This game actually risks your life.... and sadly the boy in this article and those who were playing with him, learned that the hard way.

People have done stupid things as long as we have been on this big blue planet. Seeing that some one died from this game, sadly wont stop many people.... But them again, if it stops just one.....

Yeah that is pretty much how it was at mine. Many didn't really know how to do it - but some did and could knock most anyone out whenever they attempted it.

Like you said, it went on until someone got hurt or they realized the danger and got afraid to do it.

lean against a wall while bent forward and take a bunch of deep breaths... hold the last big breath and then stand up, back against the wall while somebody pushes both palms into your chest with their weight.

Do not do this. I firmly believe it can do something crazy to your heart. I passed out and I was in the house alone and something invisible was chasing me and I could hear my heart start to beat...loud!.... then thank god I woke up.
I got snatched back into my body and woke up crying. I was ten or eleven. That was some freaky #... don't do it.
