It is sad that I see Saddam on trial...you might be thinking to yourself. Is this guy crazy!!! Well, while Saddam was gassing his own people (the kurds) The us was supporting Iraq with weapons and intelligence of key iranian targets. Even after the US found out about the atrocities the US continued to give weapons to iraq. On another note the reason why Saddam was gassing these people was because they were supporting the iranians. In the long run the iranians abandoned them after the 10 year war, however, saddam continued to gas the kurds. I am not condoning these acts but it seems like Saddam was a victims of international entrapment...

Thoughts?

Geo politics in the Middle East is a high stakes game. The players are well aware of the risks and rewards but feel themselves crafty enough to comeout on top. Ultimately its hubris that brings them down.

Was Saddam entrapped? You betcha- on the eve of the first Gulf War when the US ambassador to Iraq told Saddam that the US would stay out of an Iraq/Kuwait skirmish. He was in the crosshairs since then, but it was hubris that brought him down.

One could argue that Saddam is as guilty of using chemical weapons as Bush is guilty of the few atrocities commited by some bad U.S. soldiers, such as pushing people off a bridge and such, the prison pictures?.

Is the commander and chief responcible for the actions of their soldeirs or not? If not then Saddam can argue that he never gave orders to use chemicals...
We are really stupid for capturing this guy alive and then turning him over to Iraq.

Did Saddam actually fire the weapons that had chemicals in them?

Honestly we need to just blow this guy Saddam up and get it over with before they free him then reelect him as president of Iraq.

X

Care to elaborate on why you feel Saddam wasn't entrapped? You give the guy tons and tons of weapons and don't expect him to use them on his enemies? Then you invade him 10 years later for weapons that you gave him....sounds like entrapment to me..

I see Sadam like the leader of any other third world country that depends on the more affluent countries like US; they become the scapegoats and clowns of these countries they depend on.

The only reason they keep him in power for so long was the oil in his country, when he was not longer needed then he became expendable.

That is guilty of atrocities to his own people, well where, were US and the UN back them? I guess at that time he was still needed.

You are right SoaringFalcon, it must be more that just Sadam been a bad leader, if he is guilty of killing his own people then the rest of the world is guilty too. Right? For allowing that to happened.

I don't know this is just an opinion.

This is correct oil played a big factor with our middle eastern allies. Does anyone remember the food for oil program? The UN is quite a joke...The UN should have stood up against Bush before letting these current atrocites happen as well as past atrocities. Saddam is also on trial for invading Kuwait. Shouldn't he have been on trial in 1992? Why the wait? This whole thing stinks. True Saddam was an evil man but don't put him in your back pocket then 10 years down the road sit on him.

He had to go.....but unilaterally? Again the UN comes in question. As a whole the entire region is unstable would you support an entire "regime change" in the middle east? Wouldn't that be similar to what hitler was doing in WW2? The war on terror is a war for control of petrolium. We breeded terrorists and now we're trying to fix our mistakes but it is far too late Saddam being a prime example.

You obviously dont live in either NYC or Washington because you quickly forgot WHY THE WAR ON TERRORISM WAS STARTED....because Clinton didnt get off his lazy ass when we got hit and allowed it to continue....Bush is now doing something about it yet he's "the devil"...get real...Hitler wasnt looking for a regime change in WW2...why do democrats always compare Bush and Hitler?...Should I compare Clinton to Larry Flynt?...its insane...Hitler killed millions....yes...millions of people...and he didnt want a regime change...HE WANTED TO TAKE OVER EUROPE...totally...he was a dictator...the most Bush can be around for is another 4 years....you guys need to cut the crap and get real...
