i found this ironic, In 2011 and 2012, there will be events held throughout the central US observing the 200th Anniversary of the great 1811 and 1812 New Madrid earthquakes. thats from usgs site

Yes I found it rather curious that there are so many in such a small area.

Whilst writing people may not be aware that the USGS have produced a poster about the Tokohu earthquake. The main page for it is here and from there you can download various different jpg images and a PDF version.

Not saying these are 100% accurate yet as I have not checked them - and you may disagree with some muzzy, but as part of my (ever growing) information blog(s) if have added 2 lists today. (They are just lists by the way not nice interactive Google maps with knobs on )

I located a small quake 45 miles north and east of memphis on sunday afternoon. However, it seems to be a few hours later than the reported shaking.

Does anyone think that a big quake around the Aleutian Islands
would be a precurser to a big quake in California?
Alot has been moving in the ring of fire.
Kind of going counter clockwise starting with Chile,then New Zealand,
then Japan........

I did not see this one posted here yet. Granted, it is very small but it is in an area that does not see a whole lot of activity even for all of it's fault lines. It was a 2.5 in SW VA. on 3/28/11

The latest in a series of earthquakes to be recorded in Britain since the beginning of the year has been officially registered as a 2.4 magnitude tremor by the British Geological Survey (BGS). The earthquake took place south of Inverness in northern Scotland at 11.13am today and was recorded at a depth of 7km. The quake epicentre was at Abriachan, located on the A82.

Pretty quiet out there except for offshore Japan.

Speaking of offshore, I was just glancing through the USGS 7 days list and seen this

Magnitude 4.9 - OFF EAST COAST OF THE NORTH ISLAND, N.Z.

eh?

If you look at the map here earthquake.usgs.gov... you can clearly see its ON the East Cape, not OFF it..
They were 30km out south of Geonets location anyway.

Here is one that really is OFFSHORE East of the North Island, quite a way actaully, don't see many that far east, in fact its so far east its west

At least EMSC managed to get the location to match the description og "Off E Coast of N Island NZ"

USGS are working on the US Navy maps which show this area under water like the centre of America.

The Oklahoma quake probably affected the Wyoming heli, don't know about the rest. the PNSN webis are showing something at Detroit lake. Rainier & St Helens are showing some activity but I haven't looked at it closely so don't know where its coming from .

Yes I've been visiting the BGS a few times a day. There were a couple of quakes in Herefordshire and Derbyshire. There haven't been anymore. But the two up in Scotland had felt reports and were quite shallow.
