Hi SCgrits
I apologize for the delay in responding.

Well, it looks like USGS got around to listing our little temblor. Source

It's amazing how far away these east coast earthquakes can be felt. I don't know if earthquakes have been known to precede the symptoms you reported, but I sure hope you see a doctor about them. Take care.

((I'll slip back out of the sleepy Quake Watch thread now))

Sorry I didn't put the source did I.
Source is Instituto Geográfico Nacional IGN Hierro Text list
Main page with graphs and maps here

I have followed it as best I could with the spare time I've had @ Volcanic Tremors/ Hierro
The eruption started 09/10/2011 and as far as I understand is still going on, beneath the sea.

Where the swarms are at now is where it was at the start back in July, then it moved southwards to the southern end of the island where the eruption happened. Right after the eruption within days the tremors moved back to the north side.

I may have to convert the images now to an interactive map as the icons are overlapping (hiding) one another. Was 153 that one 24hr day.

Wont be quiet for long, the elastic band is at full stretch and is about to go 'ping'!

Just depends if it's a little rubber band or a great big one!

Ok lets keep an eye. At present the sun is quite active - for 2 Nov there were 8 noticeable flares with one M-class, yesterday 15 of which 2x M-class and 1x X-class. Solar wind speed about 400 km/sec.

Now, according to this theory there should be an increase in Magnetosphere activity; and this should lead to reduction in Cosmic Radiation coming through to Terra Firma. Activity on Magnetosphere would start around 4 Nov.

That in turn should then have the result in decreasing the numbers of earthquakes. USGS list 202 for this past 7 days. I would expect by 10 November we should be 175 or less in number.

Except; if there is another BIG one lurking in the shadows. (Gut feeling?)

Something to ponder: The Suns Magnetic Field flips during Solar Maximum, compared to Earths, where it flips when the Magnetic Field is weakened,or is at its weakest.

Odd no?

*Sneaks out again to let others discuss this*

The Sun does not have a single magnetic field like the Earth. There are thousands magnetic fields/regions all over the sun. What we do observe is that there are periodically (about 11 years) a switch in general (read Majority) directions of solar flares. What this is; the solar flares originates at a spot and arch back into the sun at a spot North/upwards as seen from the Earth. 11 years later the tendenccy is for the flare to arch back on the South/Downwards side. Now this is a general rule of the thumb - BUT it is not always so. Even in a general S to N flare period you do find the rogue flare jumping N to S.

At present we have a rogue kind of sunspot #1338 where some flares are going against the crowd: N to S - and these flare are quite strong. We might hear more about Bad Boy SunSpot #1338 in next few days.

You forgot to mention that as we approach the solar max the sunspots migrate towards the solar equator, then the field flips and the process starts again.

We will have to see if the increased solar activity causes a reduction or whether Jane's elastic snaps causing Mag 7 earthquakes world wide!!

Decision on North Anna may come soon

NRC staff provides an update on North Anna's restart review

Date published: 11/2/2011

By RUSTY DENNEN

fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2011/112011/11022011/662362

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission as early as next week could allow Dominion to restart its two reactors at North Anna Power Station that have been shut down since the Aug. 23 earthquake.

Meena Khanna, chief of the mechanical and civil engineering branch in the NRC's Office of Nuclear Regulation, said last night that the agency's review and final decision will cap weeks of technical evaluations that have found the magnitude-5.8 earthquake did not damage any fundamental plant systems or equipment.

"An independent safety review and ongoing technical review will be used to inform the restart decision," she said during a public meeting at Louisa County Middle School called by the NRC to update local residents on the restart review.

Thanks for clarifying that for me Muzzy...much appreciated.

I too see the one in Mineral, VA has finally been posted this morning. I do not like the activity picking up once again in the New Madrid zone.
UGH!

I am usually one who does not fear anything but this morning I am.

If it isn't the war mongering with Iran it is something else and I have to shake this fearful feeling ya'll!!!!!

*************Real Estate Wanted**************

Wanted to rent, with option to buy. Warm, dry cave, above ground level, preferably in a solid mountain, with subterranean spring.
Must not be in a flood zone or earthquake prone area.
Easy access not necessary.
Spacious enough for unexpected company!

Holy bovines! I've been feeling like I want to jump out of my skin for over 24 hours!!!
Never felt like this for so long before!

Angelchemuel......I FEEL like an elastic band.

MamaJ.....Is it an 'antsy' feeling like mine?

No one has been on the 'EAM of EP' thread. So I thought it must just be me.
I came home last night & saw how quiet everything had been. That just made me more uneasy!
Then right after I posted, the internet went out in our area! I was sure something was happening close by!
Finally I gave up & went to bed & turned on the TV to the Weather Channel. "It Could Happen Tomorrow", New Madrid / Memphis edition was on! Talk about weird! It took a loooong time to fall asleep!
I thought I would wake up today, check USGS, & I'd feel fine! NOT! I don't know what's going on, but I don't like it! I'm not easily 'shaken' either.

All looks pretty normal background activity to me

Mag 5's usgs

of course when they restrict the parameters of the lists it may look quiet

RAS goes down to 4.2

and they missed the 5.3 at Rumble 2 smv I mentioned yesterday too

NZ numbers are down below 10/day, but the energy released is acceptable for the first 3 days @ 1594 tonnes of TNT

I think what bothered me the most was the time span . There was only the 4.2 in a 9 hour time frame. It usually doesn't go so long between at least smaller quakes. At least since I've taken an interest in them. Later they did plunk in the 3.0 in Puerto Rico too. But still.......

I guess it's a "Mom" thing! Like when the kids are too quiet & the Mom starts to get worried, even though you would think that would be a good thing!

But mothers know better! That's usually when kids are into the most trouble!!! Or plotting something!

I had to lay down for a nap I was so out of whack today.
I awoke to a little swarm in The New Madrid

So hopefully it is nothing but a little release and nothing BIG will come of it.

Now I didn't say mag 7's worldwide.......but I would agree in principal. Like Aromaz, I too have a 'gut feeling' and we could see a rather large volcano eruption....but it is just a hmmm ponderance.

I read a "live chat" about Virginia on twitter the other day (search twitter for usgs live ), & one thing they said was that there have been hundreds of aftershocks since August...I keep thinking I feel them, & also check and see none reported, then up pops the 2.3!

But the thing is that this from Alaska came in just now - about 10 minutes ago. Now unless I am in some sort of future existence it is the 4th Nov right?

It appears to be the same as this one which is a 5.8.

I don't quite know what to make of this. Give it an hour or two and see if it remains perhaps.

See the last number? That is the auto ID number in the database so that 6.0 was inserted into the database 1200 approx records after the others, even though it is earlier in time.

I checked again. It is just the 6.0 that came in and set the siren off.

PS should we have our computers switched off when this X-2 hits?

Oh ja! From about 9am to 5pm I guess.
