Good to see the tsunami warnings lifted.
Right.. it's about time the Alpine Fault didn't something now, don't ya think... she looks lovely this morning out the window...
With all that subduction activity on North Island it does makes you wonder whether, on a plate boundary level, it could affect the Alpine Fault - we've already seen some knock on quakes in the area between Hikurangi trench and Alpine in the Marlborough area.
5.3 Aftershock to Kermadecs just reported

edit on 6-7-2011 by MoorfNZ because: (no reason given)
Should it release anytime soon, what could be the effect on the Canterbury/Christchurch region from an Alpine 8+ quake...wouldn't there be an almost guarantee of releasing further faults in the immediate region?

Thanks for that MoorfNZ (I think)
Pretty much what's been going thru my mind, and seen's as you're CLOSER, I sure hope you and yours get thru it okay (if happens in our lifetime).
Australia's looking like a good destination, right now, but damn those pesky quakes are EVERYWHERE these days!
