Republicans just as hypocritical as Democrats regarding earmarks in "Omnibus Bill"

While the Republicans are busy condemning earmarks in the Omnibus Spending Bill, Republicans have slipped their OWN earmarks into this bill.
Both parties, and the President have talked about ending earmarks, yet their actions prove that NONE of them REALLY want to end the practice.

Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and John Thune, R-S.D., held a press conference today to rip the Democrats' new 1,924-page, $1.1 trillion omnibus bill for containing $8 billion worth of earmarks.

"The bill is loaded up with pork projects, and it shouldn't get a vote," Thune said.

"I think this is an outrage," railed Cornyn.

But Thune and Cornyn have tens of millions of dollars for their own earmarks in the bill, including Thune's request for $8 million for B-1 bomber fleet maintenance and Cornyn's request for $1.6 million for the Texas Army National Guard Counter-Drug Task Force.

abcnews.go.com...

It is obvious to me that they mean that they want THE OTHER PARTY to stop earmarks.
Will earmarks ever become extinct? What do you think?

Dems have never said they would stop earmarks. Not sure why you suggested that.
Cutting fat, removing earmarks for clear wasteful spending..sure..but removing earmarks itself is not a Dem proposal.
The whole earmark process is actually their JOB. they goto washington to get "the bacon" for their community..don't like it? Well, if a congressman does not give specific instructions on how he would like his cut of money spent in his district, then the fed automatically allocates the money based on what they deem approprate..aka, either they choose it based on knowledge of their district, or simply hope it is allocated properly

The earmark argument is just a scam...its a fraud and those whom are pushing elminiation of earmarks are doing it -just- to confuse the average voters into thinking it is something meaningful.

I thought the republicans were transparently stupid for their move...it will effect nothing debt wise, and it only means they have less control over where tax dollars are spent.

So no...there is no hypocracy here between parties..Dems never said such tripe about earmarks beyond "reform them"

The problem is a woefully uneducated voting block that will only pay attention for about 10 minutes before elections (at best)....you can say anything that is substance free and they will eat it up.

The only thing worse than politicians are the people they represent.

That is a rather jaundiced view of the American people. I assume you weren't around during the 2008 debates here or the 2010 elections. It seemed that most of the ATS members were QUITE educated concerning the issues. Were you asleep during that time, and do you really believe that ATS members are, as you say:

For ATS members- are you as uneducated as this member claims? I don't think so.
