talk about sensationalism

cnn has the item on their site - calling it a ufo on the home page but something else in the link
www.cnn.com...
interesting quotes:

The object could have been a party balloon, the IDF said, but forces have not yet found the debris to determine what it was.

and

There have been unconfirmed media reports that it was a motor-driven object.

I agree, with the exception that the use of a balloon seems a bit over the top OBVIOUS... I mean, did the boogie man enemies think they could sneak one past Israeli air defenses, which has been rumored so elaborate and effective that it can pinpoint the exact location, alt, speed and direction of a butterfly.

And my point with the google links was to show that this is not a super secret location.

Maybe the enemy was testing the security of that facility, seems silly, but more likely than trying to collect real time Intel from a balloon.

How can they know that it was unmanned if they're not even sure if/what kind of balloon it was?

Doesn't make sense to me.

all so vague.

unmanned spy balloong

miniature, unmanned spy drone

there are a myriad of things this could have been. we'll never know the truth. if it was some other nation's attempt at intel gathering, the Israeli's won't say a word. If it was a balloon of any sort, we won't believe them when they say so. if it was alien, which I don't think anyone actually believes but, if it was, they certainly aren't going to tell us.

Absolutely Correct Crakeur!

If they haven't found the debris to determine what it was, then it is still "unidentified" at this point, therefore UFO.

Now, if they haven't found any debris, then 1. How do they know it was unmanned? 2. What is the point of stating what it "could" have been? It could have been ANYTHING at this point!! I don't believe a party balloon would have brought on a military response, and I don't believe they could "shoot down" a party balloon either. A large weather balloon type of platform would have gotten a lot of attention, so that is a possibility.

So much speculation, even on the part of CNN and the officials releasing the data. This is why nobody trusts anything from the media. First they overhype and exaggerate, then they back up and give vague information full of discrepancies, then eventually they give some mundane explanation that seems unbelieveable after the sensationalism. It seems to be standard operating procedure these days. Maybe it is intentional?

It really doesn't make sense that this was just some balloon. I'm sure there are birds flying around the plant that will create just as big a radar return as a balloon. Why the presumptions if the debris has not been found yet? Also if it was such a slow moving object, wouldn't the military have jets up to coach whatever it was back away from the no-fly zone? This must have been a very fast moving object for them to shoot without asking questions. Use your brains people! :-)

Wouldnt you determine that its NOT a balloon before bringing in the military and missiles?

Ha! and the U.S. air force couldn't shoot the planes down on 9-11?! if there had been people aboard this "balloon" would they have just let it crash into the plant? Either way, there isn't really enough info in this post to draw any significant conclusions. No offense to the OP. wouldn't surprise me if this tied into Disclosure somehow...

Shot down or shot at?

Who do they have looking for this debris, Hans Blix?

I like the CNN story of the events. They say Israel shot down a UFO and then said it COULD have been a balloon. So, which was it???

See link for CNN story.

The truth of the matter is the Israeli jet was a chinese lantern shooting down the kids balloons from New York.

You all need to report the truth better

Remember folks...every ariel object are latex-mylar ballons and chinese lanterns...No matter what. Goes for all known airplanes as well.

All unidentified objects especially the ones that go from 100mph to 5000mph in 3 seconds and make right angle turns at 3000mph are airplanes, helicopters, and jets

an unmanned balloon would imply something a bit larger than a birthday party balloon and I highly doubt that the military would be called in for a balloon of that size. This seems to be a case of someone was spying on the nuclear plant and the Israeli Air Force was called in to take down an object large enough to be taken down.

Israel has to show the dire need for that new batch of F-35's that America is refusing to sell them. What better way to say that than some foreign government or unknown entity positioning equipment near Nuclear plants. Which in turn creates a threat to Israels national security. lol

They are slick, I'll give them that. Anything about activity near a nuclear plant is going to raise eyebrows.

Well at least they got it right and say its a balloon, unlike what we see here almost daily

Nothing to see here, move along move along.....

Got it right?! You don't really think the Israel Air Force would admit to encountering a REAL UFO (and you jolly well know what I mean by this acronym). Try living in the real world.

Good Points!!

If there is no debris found so far, and surely a Nuclear Installation has good manpower and a thorough knowledge of the terrain, so if there is no debris found, how do they know it was shot down? I think shot "at" is more correct.

And, until it is identified it will continue to be "unidentified" and since it was flying...and may still be....it is a UFO!

And, yes, it is very disturbing that they shot something down before identifying it! Surely a fighter jet flyby would have made identification fairly easy. They have used this method before to redirect errant flights, so we know the procedure allows for identifying and escorting something away from the secure area.

In my opinion, it was certainly a UFO, either a terrestrial enemy of Israel, or a non-terrestrial object, and they are currently in overdrive constructing some debris to show to the public. We will either see a non-descript weather balloon materialize tomorrow, or we will see a mangled Iranian or Syrian drone materialize tomorrow, depends on the political climate over the next 24 hours, and no matter what materializes, we will never know if it was the actual item shot down.

You know sometimes i am a little harsh on the the Israelis because of the Zionist movement...So out of that tinge of guilt i have decided that i will give the Israeli's a bit of help on this one so here is a lovely chart to help them wether to decide to shoot or not.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/df4490945e49.jpg[/atsimg]
As you can see the chart is very very very precise and accurate...and you can make out the balloon by the strings attached to the basket...

I REALLY hope this will help them not to make mistake in the future.

I don't know what it was but my gut feeling is, there is no way it was a balloon.

You would have to be very stupid to try and send some sort of balloon over Dimona, like a previous poster said, just use Google Earth.

What would they hope to achieve, listen into something or take photos? Well, people are way underground so listening in is rather silly to try and then we're back to the photo bit, using Google is far easier.

If they were stupid enough to try and get photos, somebody has to retrieve such photos and that would be incredibly difficult too.

And last thought is, why scramble fighters / F16's to shoot down a balloon? Surely some ground fire would bring it down far easier and bullets from the cannon of a fighter would simply go right through and it would be like straffing your own people / land.

So either the IDF have over egged the pudding by a long way or it wasn't a balloon!!!
