the question of downloading the huge file is rather moot. the real question is after the encryption key is disclosed, who has the guts to post them here?

Wouldn't downloading this file make you a Terrorist or anti government of some sort?

I'm kind of guessing that the insurance file is some sort of huge trojan and backdoor. Something really advanced. Taps into GPS and/or cellular or wifi triangulation to locate you.

Then again, that could be totally nutty. You can never be too safe, right?

I did, but after reading all of these comments I got a bit paranoid and just deleted it. I was never going to download the program to unencrypt the document anyways, I would have just read the stuff on ATS haha. Would rather not get a virus or be on a hitlist after all.

Yes I downloaded the file then put in a memory stick then deleted off pc and reformatted,then suddenly a clip of a recent film jumped into my head .The film in question is The Core and can any of you remember the last couple of minutes of the film where Rat went into a cybercafe and uploaded the secrets that were being withheld from the masses .Just wondering could this be done for real by any of you super hackers out there (just a thought!)

Not only will I open the file, I will send a copy of the opened file to my US Senators and Congressmen... Why because screw them... This is our country/world and not just theirs... If they can violate the Constitution and read everything I've ever written online or in private to family and friends... if they can listen to my conversations on the phone... if they can come into my house simply because they "think" I might at some point throughout my life, maybe, perhaps, at some unknown point in the future become a threat... if they can send hitmen to kill me or fellow citizens... while completely ignoring the Constitution as they wipe their collective asses with it... then they can kiss my ass!

This is my life and I aint about to live it in fear. I hope Wikileaks releases the password... I hope his people are under orders, after 72 hours if they don't let him go... sorry dude, you aint gonna make it... Here's the password world. I know that's exactly what I would do if I had information I know damn well scares the crap out of people who just happen to be in government. Because that’s all they are… people…
However, if I had a secret so vast it could change the balance of power around the world. I know that is EXACTLY what I would do. So hell yes... Kick down the password... hell send it to me and I'll give the password to the world...

What a bunch of cowards I see posting in this thread... We're all going to die, it only matters how you live... because know this... if I get killed by these bastards I'll be on the other side before they are... and on my soul... before they realize it... when their time comes and they die, I swear they will get an other world ass whipping, and if I can send them to another place before they can get their bearings in the next life... on my soul... That was a nice speech. I agree with everything you have said, but in this situation I don't believe courage or patriotism will have any effect with the outcome. Whatever is done with this whole wiki leaks situation will be done under the guise of homeland security. We have as much chance of changing how this goes down as we would making the TSA regulations go away.At this point I am less concerned about what is in the file then I am about the possible tighter restrictions on the internet because of it. Makes me wonder if that was the real purpose of wiki-leaks in the first place.

I did not download it because it seems I do not need to. I trust at least one of those who downloaded it will distribute the contents once the password is avaliable.

I am not of the same opinion as many regarding the logs and documents wikileaks has released. I don't read them, I don't download them and have zero interest in what they say. Not that I am not for complete transparency and the right of the people to know many things within our government but the fact that if I don't even trust aspects of my government then why would I trust Assange or wikilleaks. Seems absurd to me how people really follow this guy and trust him or look up to him. Just my 2 cents though and no disrespect intended to anyone of the opposite standing on the matter by any means.

Either wiki will release the key or I'll crack it or someone else will and pass it around and take and make sure all individuals get copies. I will be contacting certain offices and giving them a taste of their own medicine while giving them Notice!!! Truth is Truth...I will make sure it gets out to. Hard Copies are best. Digital works great and faster to move. Anyone else who gets the password drop me a message and I'll put it out! Anyone that gets the insurance file open and is afraid to release it...pass it to me I'll release the info!!!

You cannot crack AES-256 unless it's a really short password, like 8-characters or less....

Assange will have certainly used a very, very long password.

Also consider, you will certainly be put on a government list if you download this. Now, posting on this forum alone has probably put you on a list.

I would recommend proxies of all kinds if you're going to download this. It may be too late though. Every website with Google Analytics or ads tracks you through Google. Use Adblock Plus to block Google Ads.

Or maybe you have a gun and protection, and don't care about being on a list. In that case, go ahead. But really make sure you are protected. Cameras, night vision, everything.

You will also need a script to refresh the Wikileaks Twitter page, in the event that the password is given out, and the internet gets shut down.
