Memo to the terrorists... Please attack these leaked locations and not the really secret and vital locations.

Yet another reason why this is too complex to simply say "it's dumb"...

This requires a bit of analysis to really understand the motivations behind this....

this is laughable because people will be outraged at this "classified" info being released. i'm relatively certain anyone wishing to commit a terrorist act could google the locations of any of these places. if people think terrorists have not already considered these targets years if not decades ago then we are living in a truly delusional world.

First of all, the list contains various mines as well as facilities that manufacture vaccines...I doubt terrorists have considered these prime targets. Second, and more importantly, it doesn't matter whether or not a terrorist could have thought with them. What matters is that this is a specific list of locations that could tell potential terrorists which locations the US actually values.

any "terrorist" that would only now know these things are valuable is basically a novice. there is no doubt these sites have been known about for some time by the real play-makers. just read them yourself and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to have previously figured out they were good targets.

A Bible has about 1500 pages, and it can take a long time to read. I heard in these leaks their are millions of pages to go through. Just a guess as to why not everything is leaked at one time.

¶8. (U//FOUO) The following three categories should be considered when determining whether critical foreign dependencies exist in the host country: 1) direct physical linkages (e.g., pipelines, undersea telecommunications cables, and assets located in close enough proximity to the U.S. border their destruction could cause cross-border consequences, such as damage to dams and chemical facilities); 2) sole or predominantly foreign/host-country sourced goods and services (e.g., minerals or chemicals critical to U.S. industry, a critical finished product manufactured in one or only a small number of countries, or a telecom hub whose destruction might seriously disrupt global communications); and 3) critical supply chain nodes (e.g., the Strait of Hormuz and Panama Canal, as well as any ports or shipping lanes in the host-country critical to the functioning of the global supply chain).

the bold one is of use to who?
and where could a cover-up be in most of these locations?
hey sleeper cells, here is a nice list to grade each location as you like to hit the next.

not to smart, that better?

And who is to say these locations are really all that secret? I know a place on the Internet you can buy all the maps of critical infrastructure in the US... in Mandarin....

Right here

I just think that there's a lot to do about nothing with these...

I'm sure this information would be great for a terrorist just starting out and with zero funding, but I'd suspect any real terrorist probably already knows this information...

isn't it kinda strange to fly 2 planes into wtc, and not touch at least a few of these locations. if they knew allready.
it doesn't add up that they knew all of these places, logic tells you the wtc thing is like building with stone age megaliths if you look at what they could have done to the world with so much less difficulties.

it just doesn't add up.

maybe there is a secret agenda behind this leak.

Actually the reason it doesnt add up, is because they want theatrical attacks... like the WTC.. they are symbolic...

They could have hit the stock exchange, but they didn't.

haha it missed one location in BC; the huge hydro-electric plant that sends a lot of electricity along Western USA (most of California, apparently), and it's right in my territory...

Just because terrorists might have considered the locations doesn't make it any less serious to tell them about them. It's a list of self-admitted high-value locations that helps them choose which targets to hit for maximum effect. It's not just terrorists either. Rogue countries like North Korea could now find out which factories to hit to make it harder for us to product missiles or which specific pipelines are needed to maintain our operations worldwide.

Imagine you had a broken leg and some guy tried to pick a fight with you. Though your leg would be an obvious target, it wouldn't make it any less stupid to say aloud, "Hmm...if he hits my leg it's really going to hurt my chances."

List of facilities 'vital to US security' leaked

www.bbc.co.uk

A long list of key facilities around the world that the US describes as vital to its national security has been released by Wikileaks.

The US State Department in February 2009 asked all US missions abroad to list all installations whose loss could critically affect US national security.

The list includes pipelines, communication and transport hubs.

Several UK sites are listed, including cable locations, satellite sites and BAE Systems plants.

can this be verified?
gut instinct..or something tells me this is a stich up..

There's a link to the cable itself in my first post.

i rarely comment on here because no matter what the topic is i can think of some conspiracy theory posed that destroys anything someone else says. it's a never ending loop and can make your head spin. but i love it anyway. take your mention of 9/11 for example. obviously i could just respond that terrorists didn't strike on 9/11 so invoking 9/11 is irrelevant to this story :-)

it's even more likely any of the 3 or 4 dangerous and dastardly countries that want to harm the united states would have known of these sites for even a longer time.

the ones that made it happen are terrorists, living in a huge sandbox or on some executive chair.
its the same., and i think this cable could raise some nasty questions about the whole event..
why not go for this xxx here its practically under there noses, theatrical my ass, if it has effect, it is theatrical cos that's how the media works around here , and they know it!

What I want to know is why was section 15 even added to this message? This should have been simply a request...

If anything, this shows the lack of thought in our intelligence services

Although our views differ as you have pointed out, I also agree with what you are saying and completely understand your concerns - What a pickle we are in - comprimise safety for truth and transparency OR continue leave the truth buried handing over our money, power and reputation to leaders that are known for and have a history of corruption... what a doozy (not sarcasm)
