And regular Americans wonder why their country is in severe debt... or do they even consider such things?

the thing i find amazing is with all these JDAM videos and similar weapons vids posted by mindless army corps of whatever nationality is there comments of F ing hell and laughter like someone just set a off a banger. This is a bomb which is blowing peoples llimbs off and destroying homes. How detached are people to do this and laugh.

Maybe it is because they were nearly "attached" to incoming fire from these positions? I´m the last one to make jokes about dead people, but if someone picks a firefight with me I´d be damn delighted to see them blown to kingdom come. Get real...

How many people do you think those three "bombs" hit?
Probably like 5? Maybe 30? How much cash did those three bombs cost us? Several million no doubt.

and if they were used correctly they'd be worth their money.
Correct use:

Use them once on a high ranking enemy and watch as psychology plays a role
not every half a sec

It all depends on context...

Context...context...context....

If someone is defending themselves and their family, and I'm in their backyard, I could see why they would do that.

The explosive power of a JDAM is the same as a regular bomb.

The JDAM is not a weapon; rather it is a "bolt-on" for unguided bombs consisting of a tail section with aerodynamic control surfaces, a strake kit, and a combined inertial guidance system and GPS guidance control unit. It is installed by Naval Ordnancemen or Air Force Munition Systems Specialists.

JDAM-equipped bombs range from 500 pounds (230 kg) to 2,000 pounds (910 kg).[2] When installed on a bomb, the JDAM kit is given a GBU (Guided Bomb Unit) nomenclature, superseding the Mark 80 or BLU (Bomb, Live Unit) nomenclature of the bomb to which it is attached.

I love JDAMs.

Nothing raises morale like friendly air support.

The unit cost is between $18k and $70k, depending on the model. Thats pocket change considering that before the JDAM came along we were using Tomahawks that cost just shy of a million apiece for the same purpose.

You'd think it was money well spent if you were the one being shot at.

And for the "collateral damage" folks out there, look at it this way. We can fly one of these things into a bedroom window. I've never needed to use more than one, and I've never had one miss. But you never see the headline "WhiteOne scores perfect hit with JDAM, kills bad guys- Orphanage undamaged." All you hear are stories about equipment or operator malfunctions. Since peace, love, and understanding haven't really worked out so well during the course of human civilization, we're probably not going to stop using bombs. So we're left with the choice of using smart weapons to limit collateral damage, or going back to WWII/Vietnam style carpet bombing. I know which I'd prefer.

I was about to *&%# a brick if no one mentioned that the JDAM system is merely a bolt on tail piece and GPS/ Inertial Guidance control services to turn old "dumb" bombs left over in the arsenal from the carpet bombing days into precision munitions at a great savings. IMO the JDAM systems is one of the best military innovations in a while, nothing like taking dumb munitions and bringing them up to the 21st century with same accuracy as weapons systems costing vastly more.

I completely agree with there hardly ever being an acknowledgement of successful strikes in the MSM and the over hyping of errors that do occur. I think if more people so the sheer unforgiving destruction of the carpet bombing raids that were the norm in the past and that's not even getting into other nasty options like napalm.

How exactly is that? This is a very conventional weapons system.

There's nothing wrong with laughing when you blow the crap out of your enemies!

It's fun! Exciting. Often, these clowns think they're in a hidden or unassailable position, because their backward mentalities only think in 2D.

Surprise!

It's that 3rd D that's a real bitch.

Oh, so they should all stand out in the open so they can be gunned down?

I don't understand your logic at all. I especially don't understand why you think it is funny to bomb people; are you going to laugh when they bomb you?

I know you don't understand it.

Your other posts on this and other topics make that quite clear.

Your problem.
