There's a new security threat at some of the nation's military bases -- and it looks uncannily like a can of Coke.

Specially rigged Coke cans, part of a summer promotion, contain cell phones and global positioning chips. That has officials at some installations worried the cans could be used to eavesdrop, and they are instituting protective measures.

Coca-Cola Co. says such concerns are nothing but fizz.

_______

military bases, including the U.S. Army Armor Center at Fort Knox, Ky., are asking soldiers to examine their Coke cans before bringing them in to classified meetings.

Well, here is a threat to government security that I didn't see coming. Although humorous to some extent, I suppose that one would not think to look inside a soda can for survalence equipment.

ZJesus god, the govornment is after the refreshment industry. First exploding Beer Coolers, now Coca Cola is a threat to national security?

Whats next, dirty bomb ghetto blasters and chewing gum made from superglue to seal your jaw shut so you starve to death?

I swear, these terror warnings point to a possibility of the guys in the FBI and CIA sniffing a little too much white out.

I read somewhere else (on ATS - I think) that someone did a kind thing for a Muslim woman and she warned that person not to buy Coke or Pepsi in the month of August (?!)

Pure urban legend crap. A recycled urban legend.

The original one was circulated post 9/11 about how someones sisters boyfriends cousins beutician was dating an iranian, and he told her not to fly on planes during the month of september.

Then, it was recycled, amidst paranoia that followed the attacks, about someones brothers best friends sisters' accountants' son, who lived next door to a muslim friend, who told him to stay out of all shopping malls during the month of october of 2001, becayse rumor had it that the terrorists were gonna bomb all the malls.

Its an old story, so no. Drink coke all year round if you like.

I think the Coke/Pepsi thing has its roots in the old saying:
Coke is for Jews; Pepsi is for Arabs

As for the security thing This is just an example of the military mind when it has nothing else to do.

Uh-oh, I'm pagan, does that mean I have to drink Fanta now?

Seriously, these alerts are getting ridiculous. "Look out for ... something ... somewhere ... sometime ... but just maybe." We're headed well into "cry wolf" territory, IMHO.
