If he were just helping REAL Whistleblowers, I'd be here defending him. This is something entirely different.

are u speculating here?
If not I would ask for a link
so we can cross reference
Assange's trip expenses.

I think it's worth mentioning that it was another hacker, completely unconnected to Wikileaks, that stuck Bradley Manning in to the authorities.

Wikileaks is in the position where if they say that Manning sent them the docs, then they are admitting his guilt, sending him straight to prison and also putting in jeapordy future leaks because everyone thinking about leaking will be too scared to incase they get caught.

It's a bit of a catch 22 situation.

And Assange doesn't seem, to me, to be having some sort of luxury lifestyle - he always looks a mess as if he can't be bothered shaving, clothes always crumpled etc. It's not like he is running around in Versace suits.

did u read Assange's rebuttal to the charges?

Both incidents were consensual sex
between 2 different women at different
times. Everything between them were
absolutely fine until they found out about
each other. Then they wanted revenge
on Assange. Wonder why it took over
a month after the incidents for those women
to come forward and press charges?
And BOTH at the same time !!!!
Sounds like a lil juicy payback
for the 2-timer does it not ???
And neither woman reported to
the hospital so a rape kit could
obtain DNA evidence. It's kinda
hard to get evidence a month later
after multiple showers.
The charges are trumped and trivial
compared to Assange's agenda.
I wouldn't waste my time showing
up either for a case like that. And that's
the reason why the charges against him
were initially dropped the first time.
Now Assange is the most wanted man
in the world. Why? Because he 2-timed
2 women in the same month.
That's not a crime !!!
That's 2 notches in the pistol grip.
Look before u leap,
It pays to investigate

I think you're right wcitizen. I'm sure I read something that says he has not even been charged. Swedish law also says that he should have had written confirmation in English of the crime he is supposed to have commited and he has not received this.

I shall try and find a link. I think it was his lawyer that said it.

Yes, it was from his lawyer - I couldn't remember where I read it, but I've just recalled I think it was in the Guardian.

ps. You found it, thanks!

Boondock-saint, have you seen this article from another thread on Assange? If not, it's a really excellent read, I'd really reacommend it. The man is a genius!

Price the tickets yourself. Round Trip Coach from Australia to London is over $8,500. Best price I could locate. You think he earns the money he uses? I don't. I think he's a simple scam artist and media whore as I said. We will have to agree to disagree. If he were helping Whistleblowers I'd support him. This is something entirely different.

You seem to know a lot about the case. Post a link to the formal charges.

Oh, wait. You can't. Why not?

Because there are no formal charges against him.

Go on, try to prove me wrong. Show me the formal charges that have not yet been shown to Assange's own lawyers.

Same words every rapist in history has spoken after being caught, right?

You assume Assange is telling the truth and assume the women are lying. Why? Do you know the women? Do you know Assange personally? Truth is, most people charged of crimes in Western Countries are guilty but the wonderful thing is he gets his day in court. If he hides though, it's tantamount to an admission of guilt. Not to mention he's engaged in International Crimes by accepting stolen information from a person who committed Treason, who is also described as mentally ill by his own family.

Here you go. Julian Assange lawyer statement

And further statement made today

Found this there, bold type by me:

Stephens added: 'We are also investigating whether the prosecutor's application to have Mr Assange held incommunicado without access to lawyers, visitors or other prisoners - again a unique request - is in any way linked to this matter (the WikiLeaks data release) and the recent, rather bellicose US statements of an intention to prosecute Mr Assange.'

Held without access to lawyers or visitors! Yikes. Still not sure about Wikileaks, but I'd hate to see Julian persecuted if he is on the up & up.

Sounds like the 'plausible deniability' of an master spy to me, Boondog!
Of course I joke.

I so want Julian to be the hero of truth that we've all been looking for, and I don't believe for a minute he's a rapist after reading up on the details. Not ready to trust Wikileaks as a whole just yet though.

It's funny that they've waited this long, after the war log leaks and the coming leaks to bring up that he's a rapist.
In my opinion it's bullsh*t.

The Government does this to create a negative image of the person which they want to essentially shut up. They accuse them of a crime, make up some files, then announce to the public what they're accused of. The public then gets a negative image created of the convict. This is all they need to do to get the public to get on the Governments side. A few people on this thread have already turned against Assange. A world full of sheeple.

Cheers
Brady

Please direct me. I just did a search on the Internet and that was the best price available for flying next week and coming back a week later.

I did look into flying from here in Alaska to Australia a while back. I could not afford it. Tickets to Australia were many times more than to London. I can fly Anchorage to London for only $100 more than Anchorage to Miami, but to go to Australia means the high priced airlines. Best I could do was around $2,400 Coach. To Miami round trip is about $700. Only the really high priced airlines go to Australia that I can find. For instance United to Miami costs three times what the other airlines quote. The one I quoted was Air France and all the others came up as costing more.

Look yourself and post the results. What service do you use if you can get them so cheap?

Assange can't take an airline anyway. He is being ferried around on private planes I'd bet.

Link to ticket prices for international flights.

Air France is the only one that came up. Click the link.

Explain to me how all of you know those women were lying or are you just groupies of a guy you don't even know personally? You just decided out of the blue that Assange is innocent or you don't care?

Hey, don't get nasty like that with me, mister. That's completely and totally out of order. That kind of rhetoric is a total disgrace.

I do not agree with your take on this topic, but I have said nothing at all to you...now you keep your filthy comments to yourself, please.

What if he is a Rapist? Do you know for sure those women are lying? If not it's sure is horrible to label them liars, is it not? Many here are calling them liars and I wonder if they would do it to their faces?

You can do a return flight from the UK to Australia for somewhere in the region of £700 to £1,000 which would be something like $1,000 - $1,300 or so.

If you read the lawyers statement above, you will see that the two women admitted that the sex was consensual. So it was not rape. And whatever he is being accused of has not been fully disclosed, so nobody really knows why Sweden want him. Until that is made clear, I think it is hard to make a judgement.

Innocent till proven guilty.

edit on 1-12-2010 by qualitygossip because: To change £'s to $'s in the second mention of prices.

I was responding to the quote you posted that stated he started a world revolution. Not you. You posted it, did you read it? I could have been clearer, but I've not heard anyone outside of ATS even interested in him except to criticize him. His following must be very tiney.
