18000 wow what a thriving metropolis... Not everyone lives out in fum buck egypt where 80 percent of the town is retired.... Sigh! By the way what is the positions and what does it pay that might explain why such a low response. I bet Walmart greeter doesn't get near the response systems administrator does. Why is it everyone thinks their little personal experience in Po-dunk USA is an accurate sample of the whole country?

I realize where I live is small town, but the unemployment rate here is reportedly 8.7 percent. That means 1566 people are without work, yet I got 13 applications? Starting pay is $9.23 an hour which isn't great, but will go a long way towards paying your bills...around here anyway. Position is Communications Officer at county jail so you have to have clean criminal history to be granted access to state and national law enforcement computer systems. Evening shift is the most difficult to fill. Anyway, you don't need to be insulting to make your point. Maybe my situation is not "typical", but it is true.

The threat of a collapsing dollar, the rise of oil prices, the fall of the real estate market, the bankruptcy of small to large business. Where does it end? What can fi the problems. During the best years of my life during the Clinton adminstration, we all flourished, rich and poor, the lines of class blurred. Why can't the people on top realize money travels upward? If the average man has money, he will spend it, the rich man will get it, and reinvest it. We need to find a way to create jobs here again and allow everyone to earn an honest fruitful living. All of our industries are linked. I myself have watched my business nearly fail, i downsized to a third of what I had, and I also earn half of what i did before Nov 2008. I hope things ture around, and if not, I will pack my bags, sell my assets and move to a foreign country, where hopefully, my skills may land me a work visa and a job. I wish everyone the best, and if anyone has any idea to fix things, please pass it on.

You all seem to forget. Benefits are not a right!!
They can not be extended indefinitely.

Too many people are too damn lazy to seek work.

Instead of picking up an Application for Maccy D's or Starbucks or Burger king they think they
are above that so stay unemployed.

I agree. Cut their benefits. Weed out the lazy and expose them. Make them work like the rest of us.

I DO NOT want to support the long term jobless. Anything more than 3 months should be CUT OFF!!

Of all the social services this Government pays for, of all the bailouts and bull-crap programs that get funded, this is ONE of the few benefits that should not be taken away. I almost smell a conspiracy to SOCIALIZE THIS COUNTRY even at a faster pace than it's already moving in. Here's my reasoning (bare with me, I'll get to my point);

Unemployment is given to people who have worked and contributed to society by paying their taxes. If I'm not mistaken, someone who's worked 20 years has been contributing to the unemployment fund for those 20 years. Once becoming unemployed, they are entitled to the very unemployment benefits which they've been paying into. These are not welfare cases, these are working citizens!

Now that jobs are extremely scarce, now that many employers opt to hire only part time workers, now that those jobs pay less than unemployment, now that there is so much competition for all the measly jobs which are so difficult to survive from, those who have become unemployed are stuck living off unemployment either until they find a job that will sustain them, or until they run out of benefits and have no choice but to try to live off of $9.00 an hour in a town where the average rent is $1,300.00 a month (California).

As they cut these benefits even for the people who have not yet reached their 99 weeks, they are creating yet more poverty. Now that companies have learned to make the most with the least amount of workers for the least amount of money, they don't feel like they need you anymore. Now there's a 1,000 people looking to get the one available job in town, you should feel grateful and honored to get hired even though you'll get paid $10.00 an hour and they expect you to do the work that used to get done by three people.

Here's where the push for socialism comes in (in my opinion). With so many unemployed, with so many becoming dirt poor, people are beginning to feel very strong animosity toward wealthy people, businesses, companies and corporations. When the public anger reaches it's boiling point (which isn't too far off), people will start to believe (and maybe in some cases rightfully so) that wealthy people, their companies and businesses are their enemies. This is how a revolution starts to brew. What's next? Is the working class going to line up in front of their mansions and kick them out of their houses? Will they pillage their homes, steal valuables and expel them from this country with nothing but a sack of clothes? This is exactly what happened in Eastern Europe. The wealthy class was kicked out of the country and their properties became "the people's". Those people were so angry with the nobles that as a symbol of their anger, they moved livestock into these mansions and castles and destroyed what could have been put to far better use.

Now, the question I have is this. Who is pushing the middle class into a corner and why? Who really believed that canceling unemployment even for those who have not yet reached their 99 weeks was a good idea? Were they aware of the anger this would produce? If so, why did they go on with it? Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe I'm wrong, but to me it seems like those who run our Government know exactly what they're doing.

By supporting/bailing out some of the most crooked corporations and banks, shoving it into our faces every day through media, and giving little to the workers and honest businesses who have contributed to the greatness of this country, they are systematically pushing us into poverty. They are pushing us into a blind rage, and one day I feel like we are going to lash out at the wrong people. I feel like sometime soon some large portion of our population is going to push for "The Worker's Party". There's a very good chance that by guiding us into this rage and producing in us this reaction is exactly what the people behind the curtain want us to do. They are producing the illusion that this is the path we chose for ourselves. It's funny, because that's exactly what my family tried to escape when we immigrated to this country. It followed us here.

Maybe my theory is crazy, but it sure does smell familiar.

99 weeks is plenty of time.

I've been a janitor, a barista, worked at a day care, sold newspapers, hell I even worked retail. There are jobs out there. People just need to get off their asses.

Okay I'm a couple into some newcastle brown ales but:
We are adjusting to the "new normal". America has to downsize. we all made decisions homes/kids training and jobs based on a system that was sold out from under our feet. employers are reluctant to hire anybody laid off because you are stigmatised as "second string" or your company would not have let you go.

We have some serious adjusting to do population and labor force wise,. My kids probably won't have kids. I 'm a pretty solid conservative: but in this case I am leaning toward providing an easy let down for people.if we can give aig billions to turn into bonuses.we can pay Americans to be phased out of the "new economy.". We have to start our own businesses and start over in alot of cases. The old "get a Job" paradigm is insufficient.

Socialism is about not getting everyone on the government dole.

I almost think that our government is trying to foment a violent revolution by the actions it takes.

And when this happens, the UN will settle it.

Old World Order.

Don't make the "American Experiment",a failure.

It worked once, globalism destroyed it,combined with greed.

Socialism,and Social Services,are not the same thing,BTW.

OH PLEASE!!!
Our poverty in this country is NOTHING compared 3rd world countries like Haiti.
They are living in aluminum shelters now because of the earthquakes.
Oh not to mention they have to deal with a cholera outbreak.
Stop acting so spoiled. Just because someone is a millionaire doesn't mean that they're
sucking up all the money from you.
In fact it's the opposite. People with money create jobs.
Here''s a question, what if you became a millionaire by working your ass off
and the government decided to take half your income?
Would that seem fair to you? Even though you have a lot of money you earned it.
This is the land of opportunity, come up with a good idea and roll
with it man, don't blame 'greedy corporations'. Ugh.

This is what Glenn Beck has been talking about on his show for the past 3 weeks.
It's funny how anytime I mention Glenn Beck someone criticizes him. But they can never
come up with anything that he said that was wrong.. - Sorry venting a bit

Republicans Use Senate Backlog They Created To Extort Tax Cuts For The Super-Rich

[W]e write to inform you that we will not agree to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to any legislative item until the Senate has acted to fund the government and we have prevented the tax increase that is currently awaiting all American taxpayers. With little time left in this Congressional session, legislative scheduling should be focused on these critical priorities. While there are other items that might ultimately be worthy of the Senate’s attention, we cannot agree to prioritize any matters above the critical issues of funding the government and preventing a job-killing tax hike.

God i hope one day..Just one time in your life get dealt the life of 90% of those lazy people as you call them.
Let me give you a example of my life. the day Obama stole Christmas.

I Have had so many heart attacks in the last 2 year's the next one may kill me.
I was the AKA perfect american paid my tax's worked 60+ hours a week for my company..hard labor not some prick behind a desk here.
I watched our 3 kid's While my wife went to college ..to become a cma.
I thought she was actually bettering herself. She got a loan to the sum of 30k after interest to become a Cma.
Well in july her Muslim doctor she worked for fired her.
said he couldn't pay as many people as he is on payroll.
Well she look's for work every day..EVERYDAY. even the local mcdonalds with no avail.
We live in a small town here..not many factory's or restaurant's.
Now this here popped up...No more unemployment.
Well some people had to live on it..It was not hurting you it was actually helping you.
for every 1 a unemployment person spent put 1.90 in the economy that is a fact.

I paid my tax's she paid her tax's.
My father fought in vietnam..got 2 purple heart 1 with gold leaf cluster 1 silver star and 2 bronze star's.
And said with his own mouth he would never have fought for this country when asked if he knew obama was gonna turn us into this.

The nearest local town from us is 25 miles away.
After this unemployment check..we will be broke.
I can't walk to the mailbox without having to sit down for 10 minute's.
can't go to the doctor to even find out what is wrong with my heart.
Only heart doctor in my area want's 500 dollars up front or will not see me...the company i worked for didn't offer insurance either.and has now moved to Indiana.
in my area i live we have lost over 4000 local factory job's from them closing shop.
G.E redwing B.P.I Trim master's ATR just to name a few.

But yeah by your moronic thinking it's ok to make people suffer to weed a few bad egg's out.

I am facing death over spending money to put food in my own kid's mouth.
And not 1 thing i can do to get out of it.
Do i hold a discontent for arrogant pricks who have been handed everything there whole life.
You better believe it!!

But one day i hope you If there is a god for Karma.....Have to go through what 90% of them Lazy people are having to do this holiday season.
I pray for it now.

To those who are slamming the few who abuse unemployment insurance, I have to ask. Were you as outraged when failed bank executives walked away with multi-million dollar severance packages, sometimes for just a few months on the job while the bank they were leaving was getting bailout funds?

The chronic subsidy of failure, at every level is destroying the moral fabric of this country. I personally catch myself wanting to get my piece of the pie since everyone else seems to be... at every level.

My husband spent almost 2 years looking for a job... as tirelessly as he could. Getting rejected on a daily basis is frighteningly demoralizing and you really do just have to stop looking sometimes to keep your sanity. Most of the positions being advertised at the time wanted a bachelors degree, experience in multiple specialities, willingness to work multiple tasks and it paid... woohoo $10 an hour. When your unemployment is equal to 60% of your previous net earnings and this fantastic opportunity would pay 40%... wonder why people don't take the jobs until they HAVE to.

Look unemployment is one thing, but if you can't figure something out in 12 months then there are problems. I am sorry but 12 months unemployment is plenty. It's unemployment not unemployment while you spend time going to school, shopping, hanging out and doing wtf ever benefits. Sorry if I seem cold over this subject, but I am tired of watching so many people abuse the unemployment system claiming they deserve it.
