I do appreciate the fact that I can call a site owner's motives for a post into question on ATS, and receive a civil, genial reply.

Congratulations! You're now in my position, a die hard skeptic confronted with something he can't explain. For me it launched a lifetime exploration of the UFO phenomena.

Seems a little odd that in 19 pages, no-one has yet gone through the OP in full detail, to break it down and analyse it properly.

If anyone's interested, *and* if S.O. is willing to answer some.. rather important questions, I'll be happy to do that...

Your simulation link was great, it reminded me a lot of what my girlfriend and I saw on Halloween. Only, it did not break in two, just went Up and to the right. But that very same speed. Also, what we saw didn't look like anything necessarily "exploded" or anything. It kept the same shape and the movement just reminded me of the way a very purposeful bug might fly from one location to another. Your story has made me rethink buying myself an iPad. Hah.

While it was visible from the Phoenix area, there's no way to be certain is was near enough to be considered "over" the Phoenix valley.

Why be timid? You've never held back before.

Thanks for your candid answers to my question!

Dam SO, thats weird...I have no idea what the hell that could have been.

You have presented your case with all the information and circumstances from your perspective to the best of your ability.

We have no corroborative witnesses. No evidence of a potential launch or landing of any known terrestrial craft. No indication that it could have been a known type of naturally occurring phenomenon. (meteor, ball lightning etc.)

so I am still left with:

Dam SO, thats weird...I have no idea what the hell that could have been.

Yep...classic UFO! congratulations...I guess.

Personally, I don't believe the OP. I think he made it up to get flags. I'm entitled to my personal opinion. And in my honest opinion, I think he is a liar.

Do you have any rationale for such an accusation?

You should be aware that, as one of the owners, "flags" are meaningless for my account status.

If flags are meaningless, then I dare you to open up a new account, with zero flags. I bet you wouldn't - as your stars and flags mean so much to you.

Indeed. It's one of those unfortunate "sightings" where you needed to be looking in the right place at the right time. Which can certainly add doubt to the validity of what I saw... and added to my reticence for posting.

However, in this thread we've seen several people indicate seeing something similar, and the "splitting light" appears to have commonality through historic accounts... which was unexpected.

Since the sighting, I've been out nearly every night at the same time and haven't noticed any unexpected "lights" where there should be none.

What purpose would that serve? This is *my* sighting and I take ownership of it, for better or worse.

It would show that you stick by your word that "flags are meaningless". IMO I still think you just made it up to get flags and until you prove otherwise, that's what I'll always think.

I didn't say that, I said flags are meaningless for my account.

Again, what is your substantiation for calling someone a liar?

Well if flags are meaningless for your account - then start a new account with zero flags.

- And as I said, it's just my opinion - and I'm entitled to it.

If you're going to call someone a liar in public, especially on ATS where personal accounts of such things are encouraged, substantiation is expected as your accusation may be seen as both an insult and attack.

Additionally... "flags" are far more important as a user-generated editorial process than "kudos" to specific user accounts. The flags assigned by members define the priority of content that appears on the site home and other content-ranking pages.

As it stands - people come on this site to post theories and ideas - then others come on searching for the truth. And I debunk what you say by simply saying, "you made it up to get flags." - The only way you can prove this debunk wrong - is by creating a new account with zero flags - that will prove to me and everyone else that you didn't just make it up to get flags.

That's my theory and I'm sticking by it.

I don't think it is too unusual to have few if any corroborative witnesses in a sighting like yours. However, The overall integrity of a sole witness can obviously (and should) have great bearing on the potential validity of an observation. As is your case. Irrespective of some folks opinion, you sir are a highly credible witness.

However, in this thread we've seen several people indicate seeing something similar, and the "splitting light" appears to have commonality through historic accounts... which was unexpected.

Yes, a large commonality. My personal sighting in 1974 was very similar with 4 "lights merging into 2 then zooming (blink of an eye fast) horizonward.
All directly over a major nuclear weapons mfg. facility. (Mound labs Miamisburg Ohio) After they all 4 sequentially "lowered" a slow moving beam of light down to the visible reactor! yep, I uttered my first expletive deleted right then..I think I crapped a little too. It's been a very long time ago...but Nothing I could ever forget.

Since the sighting, I've been out nearly every night at the same time and haven't noticed any unexpected "lights" where there should be none.

Keep looking up!
