What would the world be like if no one believed in a god or gods?

In my opinion. Technology would not exist, as we know it today. I could imagine a primitive society, with zero imagination. Think deeply about this statement, about restricting a thought.

No smug Atheists to deal with !

"Be careful what you wish for" is a saying that comes to mind.

Heh,
I can dream of a world full of Atheists can't I?
What if it was a planet full of em.
Wouldn't they still balance
their behaviour out
in their own way?

I mean the literacy required to become an Atheists
contains a lot of advanced ethical systems
all compared against each other.

I'd be smug too.

I strongly have a side on your opinion for this.

Belief in god/s and deities moved humanity for a pretty long time and shaped the world with great cultures.

The very things that seem like a bad idea to some people are pretty much the things that brought in shapes.

Haven't read much Nietzsche huh?

Haven't read much of the bible huh ?

Atheists believe that some philosopher (e.g., Friedrich Nietzsche, Richard Dawkins or Karl Popper) has proven atheism. However, they will of course dismiss any philosopher that believes in God. The atheist argument runs thus:

1. God does not exist, and this is obvious, ergo
2. Anyone who believes in God is stupid, ergo
3. Any arguments that God exists are invalid, ergo

How come we see lots of threads started by Atheists asking about GOD ??!! - Are you all in Gods closet and ashamed to come out !!!

Look at the results of past efforts to kill "faith in god" >

Joseph Stalin, Atheist: 20 million plus dead
Mao-Tse-Tung, Atheist: 40 million plus dead
Pol Pot, Atheist: 2 million dead
Kim-Il-Sung, Atheist: 5 million dead
Fidel Castro, Atheist: 1 million dead

Please check who starts most of the threads on Atheism.

Your viewpoint on Atheism is rather slanted and ill-informed.

One thing we can all likely agree upon is that life must have some purpose... Because life has a purpose people will find some way to create value in their actions. If you consider life has value, and humans have an ego, it will be decided that some peoples' actions are better or worse than other peoples' actions.

Ultimately believing in gods or not will have no relevance... we will always find a "higher" meaning to define ourselves by. Whether that be religious dogma, belief in cause and effect, who's a better fighter, or quantum mechanics and superstring theory - our actions matter and will define us whether god(s) exists or not.

A VERY significant point in this is that the OP used the term God or gods...

many people around the world only know their own specific religion, that was probably also the religion of their parents. Just using Christianity as an example - the term God means many things to many people. The idea of Hell wasn't even part of Christianity until the King James version of the Bible. Jesus' idea of God is more similar to Eastern mysticism than the Western Christianity of today.

It's sort of a moot question without a definition of "God or gods".

"WE CAN NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO ENVISAGING A GODLESS WORLD. "

Is what i was replying to, because we have already.

Also, i can come up with figures too; people killed by religious people:

Adolf Hitler(catholic): Approx 26 million
Imperial japanese(Shinto): 10 million chinese + approx 5 - 10 million during ww2.
British Empire, conquest of north america(Christian denominations): 3 million native americans.
Spanish empire, conquest of south america(Catholic):
Spanish inquisition: 30,000?
Crusades: 130,000
Indian genocide by Muslims: approx 80 million
Civilians killed in iraq through a war started by a christian president: Approx 103,000
And so on..

By the way i've read the bible, I was actually raised catholic. I try not to form opinions with out having some insight of the opposing opinion's perception. And this is what comes out.

So are you saying that athiests are not trustworthy and do not know how to do what is right and good?
