This is what pisses me off about the whole benefit. Turns out if you worked for a political party in order to get someone elected and they just so happen to lose, you can file for unemployment. This is the most ridiculous most disgusting form of getting unemployment benefits.

Now if you were FIRED from a position you held on to for a long period of time, say, 6 months to a year, then by all means you have every right to unemployment benefits. I do strongly believe that the system should offer a program that tries to find a position or job based around your natural talents while you are waiting.

I like your thinking. I am not on unemployment, and I am not lazy, so I am going to school and working with the FEDS if I can get a job, there are plenty of IT jobs there and they do pay that 100,000 dollar salary!!!! Well at least I will get paid more even though I will be working for criminals. At least those criminals pay better than the corporate ones! Well. of I am going to sell out, might as well be for as much money as I could possibly get!

Yeah, I 100% agree, It's pure laziness. And It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact not many people are hiring anymore. Oh no, nothing to do with that at all.

EDIT: Anyway, ask yourself, if you have a job today and then you lose it tomorrow, are you now lazy? No, you're not. Being unemployed is simply just a sign of the times. Some are lazy yes, but most are not. Most want to work.

I am claiming the opposite - My observation of laziness it far more accurate than your counter charge.
Just look at America, it is clear that such a poor run down #@$@ hole is teaming with lazy masses!

I guess I could fall into the category of being a lazy unemployed person, I'm 27 years old and have been working a full work week every since I was 14 years 9 months old ... at the start of this year (2010) after waking up day after day and feeling like crap being made to get up and do something I didn't want to do everyday, I said bugger this ima get fired and go on unemployment, I have paid tax since I was 14 and never ever got a say where that tax money goes or how it gets spent, and I worked for that money ... So in my mind I'm just living off my own money that I worked for for 13 years. I don't really have an intention to get a job at the moment unless I find something that I really really wanna do.

I have no qualms taking money from the government considering how much I have paid in tax and the stupid crap they get to spend it on ... to be honest I would love to go over all my tax records and find out exactly how much I have paid in tax and stay on unemployment till they have paid that back to me. I'm pretty sure it will be 5 or so years worth.

Yes at the moment I'm pretty lazy, I believe when you pay taxes you should get to stipulate what section that money gets spent in or at least what section the majority of your money should be spent in.

No, the point is if I were not reaping the benefits I have earned from my years of paying unemployment insurance, I would be homeless. There need to actually be jobs in order for people to get a job. Perhaps you have a case to make. I doubt it but it might be interesting to see how you explain how cutting off unemployment creates jobs.

STEAL?? You pay into this unemployment insurance for years while your working sometimes never getting any of it back. ALL people who are on unemployment paid into and are only getting SOME of it back!!!!
