However, Hong Kong press reports said some 150,000 PLA troops had been deployed to the region in China's northeast "to deter a nuclear build-up in North Korea."

Large troop movements and new military barracks were also seen in the border towns of Hanchun, Tumen, Kaishan, Sanhe and Baijing, while air force jets were frequently seen flying over the capital Yanji, some 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the border, one report said.

if the Chinese snapped the N.Koreans into line. It'd be even neater if we helped with air and naval support. However, I think it's unlikely that China will actually invade N. Korea. It's all bluster. All smoke and mirrors. Kim Jong Il knows this. He's probably on the Chinese-Korean border this very second, farting in their general direction and shouting taunts.

Nope, this is all show. In the end, China will do whatever is the worst thing possible for US interests. N. Korea will end up with nukes. If Japan and S. Korea are smart, they'll start loading up too.

It would be in China's best interest to not let N. Korea excalate the situation. I doubt that an attack will occur; most likely it's just a threat and a deterrant as of now. But China, Japan, and S. Korea all have a vested interest in stabilizing East Asia, so that their economies won't tank. An assault on N. Korea would destabilize the economy almost as much as concrete proof that N. Korea has nukes.
