Earth is truly beautiful when viewed from space. But add some false color produced by satellite sensors, and the result is stunning.

The U.S. Geological Survey has released a new selection of particularly interesting images from the Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 satellites. These space craft have been prolific sources of data for earth scientist, but the new shots were chosen solely based on aesthetics.

Great Salt Desert, Iran

Gotland, Sweden

Mississippi River

Rocky Mountains, Canada

Empty Quarter, Saudi Arabia–Yemen Border

Earth As Art

Here are a few amazing images taken from space.
Some of these picture's remind me of the picture's created by the Hubble Telescope.

Also if you haven't checked out
USGS Earth As Art website, there are more images to look at.

And aesthetically beautiful they are indeed.

I think I like the one over Sweden best, although they are all quite stunning.

Thanks for the pics, absolutely beautiful! The one over Sweden looks like a zoom of the Mandelbrot set from a fractal generator. Actually, I guess it's the other way around...

Fantastic Oozil, and no one does art like mother nature. I like the Canadian Rockies one and I am always amazed at how these patterns on our planet resemble circulatory systems like arteries and veins. I really do think Gaia is a living organism and we should treat her as if.
The Iraq one has been color coded, no? If not, wow!!

Peace,
spec

Hey spec, you're very right. Earth is a canvas and mother nature is the artist. I'm glad you enjoyed these images.
