I once watched an 8 year old girl correctly guess one chosen card out of 16...at least half a dozen times in a row for several people. Curiously,
despite having done card tricks off and on myself for many years, and watching her very closely to see how she was doing it, I didn't see any way it
could be done. So, naturally I congratulated her on an excellent trick and when she volunteered to teach it to me I declined, because a magician
"never reveals" the trick. But she insisted, and eventually I accepted, because it was an
awesome trick and I really wanted to know how it
was done.
And when she explained how she did it...there was
no sleight of hand at all. Basically, the secret was to "tap each card a couple times and
then you know."
Seriously.
Sadly, I saw her again a few days later and suddenly she wasn't able to do it anymore. Apparently she hadn't realized that she wasn't supposed to
be able to do that.
EVERYTHING lacked definable color
Two possibilities come to mind:
The color-sensing components in your eyes need a bit more light to function than the black and white components. You'll notice that you can still see
in subdued light, but colors are not as vivid. If you were experiencing severe
miosis due to the
attack, or the drugs they gave you, your eyes might not have been registering color very well.
Sometimes
out of body experiences occur with limited sensory "connection." One might
have an OBE with no visual component, for example, or only a fuzzy, grainy vision. You may have been experiencing something similar.
I can put myself into Sleep-Paraylsis which I enjoy but
lately have been getting uneasy by doing so. Why?
That's very common. There are many theories as to why it happens. From my own personal experience, "sleep paralysis" is an intermediary stage
between waking consciousness and an OBE. Sort of like, your focus is no longer on the physical body, but you haven't actually moved
away from
it yet. As for the unease, you might read about
Old Hag
Syndrome, which depending on the school of thought, is either a manifestation of your own fear, scary monsters waiting to eat you, or any number
of things. Again, many theories. But the experience itself is quite common.
my head stayed within the same spot as if it weighed a ton.
Interesting. Personally I find the head to be one of the easiest parts to get out, but I suppose it's probably just that we have different chakras
blocked.
In any case, try grabbing onto something with your hands and
pulling the "stuck" portions out. Sometimes that works. And don't worry about
reach. Even if the roof is six feet away, your two foot long arms may still be able to reach it. Try not to make too many assumptions about things.
I knew this wasn't dream although I wasn't awake
From what I've read, personal experiences with these things vary highly. Take anything you read from anyone else with a grain of salt. It may or may
not apply to you. And you may experience things that don't apply to anyone else. I personally suspect that that "dreams" "lucid dreams"
"astral" projection "etheral" projection "out of body experiences" and probably several other classes of experience are all slightly different
phenomenon. But not everyone has experienced all of them, so sometimes the words different people use to describe them disagree with each other. For
example, I've had lucid dreams, and I've had experiences that I'd call "out of body" and experiences that I'd call "astral projection" but
these are just names that I've associated to experiences. Somebody else who's had some unusual experience is probably doing the same. So when I say
astral projection that doesn't necessarily mean I'm talking about the same sort of experience as somebody else when they say astral projection.
Point being, there seem to be a
variety of non-waking states of consciousness, and when talking to others about them it may be helpful to
establish a common frame of reference so you know what people are talking about. Also, if somebody says something that contradicts your own
experience...make your own judgements. Maybe you're doing something that they aren't, but they don't know that.
Alternately, it may be that there are "no rules" when one is out of body, be in practice we're limited by the rules that we think we have. For
example, personally I've never seen any indication of this "silver thread" thing that people like to talk about, but some people are thoroughly
insistent that everybody has one. So...if your first exposure to this sort of thing is somebody who's completely anal about how you must have a
silver thread, you may tend to expect that and therefore have one because of it. But I'm just speculating. Maybe they're all octaves above me and
know what they're talking about. *shrug*
I recommend you come to your own conlusions rather than believing anything anybody else says.
I ask if anyone can point me in the proper direction of any books or reading material which allows me to explore this.
Google or ATS searches for any of the above expressions would probably be helpful. A lot of what you're talking about has been discussed at great
length by others. Just be prepared to filter out a lot of nonsense and come to your own conclusions about these things.
Oh, and welcome to ATS.
One final tip, sooner or later a mod will be around to tell you that this is an introduction so we're not allowed to have any serious discussion
here. When that happens, you'll need to make 20 posts to threads before you can make your own.
