You're looking for a key? be more specific within this thread please.
If you're trying to get into a cabinet that is locked, disassemble it.

yes, the key.
and no, it's a very old cabinet, big and hundreds of pounds.
grandpa shipped it back from china a long time ago.
the whole thing would need to be taken apart.
it's not the kind of cabinet that has phillip head screws.

We have one like that in our house as well. If you ever lost the key you would have to break it apart so we don;t lock it and put the key up.

Why was she hiding the key? The only time I hide keys, is if I want to keep someone out of said cupboard for various reasons, like the safe. I would put it somewhere that I can get to it very easily and quickly, but where nobody would bother to look. Look around the where the drawer is, it would be in an obvious place, not easily reached by small children, if she had small children around regularly.

You say she was ill before she died? It would be placed for her to get to with minimum difficulty as well then. Have you checked the pockets of her clothes, like a gown? I think you guys might call it a bathrobe? If the drawer is near her clothing cupboard, try looking inside shoes as well. if there's a rug, and she was ok with bending down and there weren't kids around regularly, try looking under it. Her jewelry box could also be one place to look, but unlikely.

If she wasn't necessarily trying to hide the key, just keep small hands out of the drawer, it would be placed in that direct area only higher. As a mom, she would have known how easily keys can go missing, so she would have just placed it where kids can't get it and protect the contents of the drawers at the same time, and as a help to herself, in that direct vicinity, just in case she forgot herself.

I don't know, that's how I would reason, as a mom myself.

My dad died in March, I am truly sorry for your loss. You're probably sick of hearing that, I know the feeling. For what it's worth, I really am. Good luck finding the key.
