The optical illusion is the appearance of the contrail going straight up.

The contrail starts well beyond the horizon, the curvature of the earth makes it appear to come from the ground (or water)

also valid point. so what's all the hype about, i would think a person of normal intelligence would be able to tell the different between a contrail and a rocket( i guess both can make contrails)

Experts believe the mystery missile fired off the Californian coast on Monday may have been an optical illusion.

That is all not true like anything its just wild speculation. If it was a plane we would know what plane it was, what its flight number was etc. Personally I think its a rogue missile just like the one that took out the BP oil rig or worse a foreign nation. But being that it was so close to our own shore its probably the dems testing another of their missiles to raise another false flag alert so they can start using their UN run super prisons to lock up the few of us who dont walk the line with obamacare. Lets hope the republicans can listen to americas next line of defense the Tea baggers and start issuing subpoenas to get to the truth and impeach obama for his crimes against our country and if he is responsible for this missile test, for the death of the americans in the gulf.

OK then we can only assume that It's a military thing that they will not talk about. That is really pretty reasonable when you think about it.

Boring too because there goes the mystery.

Seriously? I know what you're trying to hint at, but when have you seen a plane taking off that looks like a rocket? Please share a vid.

If you look on a map where 'San Nicolas Island' is in relation to the shore or where the pilot was (elevated).. that wouldn't be over the horizon.

Well I don't believe it came from there.

I got the impression it came from Honolulu.

Chadwickus is right : look at that contrail overflow article and read up about the possibilities. I've reserved judgement on all these missile scares, and I haven't posted a thing about them, until now.

(I should add: there is obviously a drive to push people away from considering the possibility, which is its own issue. I posted one point regarding their measures to create disassociation with the event).

possibilities:

actual test

foreign power demonstration

optical illusion(people freaking over nothing)

media distraction

precursor to project blue beam

comtrails coming from over the horizon is a very good explanation, and believable.

people like to make more of stuff that what it is actually, including myself it seems.

wait and see for now.

Okay. Honolulu airport opened up in 1927. So are you telling me that in 83 years with 310,607 flights, that this is a normal occurrence?.. why are we only seeing it now?

Rockets can be controlled and directed in any direction.

Optical illusion?

Anyone else see the fail of this propaganda?

The media can't be serious, they can't actually run with this story. I can't believe that the media think we are seriously that stupid, it sounds more like a comment you would hear in a comedy version of the Twilight Zone.

Everything is OK, go back to sleep!

The ignorance of the media, I am very annoyed at the article, optical illusion!?

Yeah, next they will say 9/11 never actually happened and that the towers where never there in the first place

So this is the story the media will run now??

Totally ridiculous. Now the Media is telling people, they saw an optical illusion, you might have hallucinated.

This is the most RIDICULOUS explanation i have ever heard.

Do they seriously want us to buy this BS??

All I can do is laugh at the ridiculousness of it all

Vvv
Well then it was swamp gas! no,no it was a balloon!!

IMO If this is an optical illusion it wouldnt suprise me that they are testing it out to see if it passes the quality test. Besides, if they didnt test it before they use it how embarrassing would it be if they tried to stage a "fake" alien invason and all of the sudden there is a huge power surge on the "High-Tech CGI machine" just saying. Remember anythin is possible. One Love.

What propaganda?

The media are the ones who first said it was a missile.

The propaganda started when the media jumped at shadows and made arses out of themselves calling this a missile and the sheep (I hate that word but it fits) all follow obligingly, even here on ATS.

Hahahah.. "appears to alter its course" ... So I guess every shuttle launch mission from Cape Canaveral is an illusion as well? It looks strikingly similar to that.. and please, when is the last time you saw a plane with contrails bigger than the plane (not counting stunt planes)? Only after they've been sitting in the sky for a bit.

I think skynews got a call from mr pentagon with this sad excuse for an explanation.

Optical illusion?!!? I know what they mean with the whole plane coming towards the camera and such.. but there was even the chopper pilot who filmed it was interviewed.. This is clearly headed upwards:

Personally though I believe it wasn't the US that did this. Imagine for a second that it was some russian sub that launched it. Do you think the pentagon would tell you that? No, they wouldn't. Everyone would be scared to death, grab their guns and board up their houses in fear. They don't want to scare people (at least not in this way ;p).

Even this summer, russian bombers were over restricted airspace in northern Canada. I have a relative who was doing infantry reserve training up there when that happened, and shortly after I was able to speak to him about it at a wedding. Being military you think he'd have some explanation that he heard through the ranks... but no. Himself and every single soldier or high ranking officer there were all wondering what the F was going on.

As I've said before in alot of these threads here and elsewhere, if this was a "plane" then the people and anyone watching the sky should see this all the time almost everyday maybe even 2 to 3 times a day. Because if it was a plane it would have been coming from Hawaii and flying from that far and most likely having people who are going to LA or catching a connection at LAX you would see this all the time. We don't because this was a missile going up and it wasn't from the US but (my opinion) China launching a rocket from their sub as a warning about the fiscal mess we are making in regard to their investments. When this report came out all the govt. institutions where saying that they didn't launch a missile and I remember that one even said that it could have been a civilian launch. But they saw the same tape and images, if it was an optical illusion then the would have experience with this. What they saw was a rocket and nobody was claiming it, and they started to figure out that it was a non US entity and it scared them. It scared them because somebody did it and they had the cajones to attempt it so close to our shores. You know that the FAA is keeping quiet. Thats because people would say if it's a plane what plane was it? Then they would have to say which plane and once that is done with a little research people would find out that the plane wasn't flying or in that area of sky at that time and two, compare the approach pattern of the plane and say what a minute that plane shouldn't have been in that part of the sky or that far up if it was going to LAX.

You see a plane goes up to 30,000 to 37,000 feet to cruise, once it gets to 140 to 120 miles away from their destination they start to descend about 2,000 to 3,000 feet a minute. I'll assume its a plane and if it was a Hawaii to the mainland plane I will say at minimum a 737-600 series. Those jets fly at 490 to 510 miles an hour, so if it was going at 510 miles an hour and you divide that by 60 you get 8.5 miles a minute. Also the jet to have a nice contrail has to be up in a part of the atmosphere that is at least -40 F and with low pressure. So by the time the 35 miles it was out on the coast, it should have been at a maximum hight of 5,000 feet or at most 7,000 feet getting ready to bring it in (and it still would be decending but alot slower than the 2,000 to 3,000 feet). And thats because at that speed it would have been at the coast within 4 minutes. But yet we saw a massive contrial from a plane that shouldn't have been in that section of the atmosphere if it was on it's final approach to LAX. Remember 35 miles and 50 miles isn't that far on a plane, it will eat up that distance in minutes and he should have been as I said before getting ready for the approach.

This was a missile pure and simple.

It wasn't a plane. A missile possibly. A black project experiment probably. Everyone should be asking themselves this simple question... Do you really think with all the airports in the U.S. tracking thousands of planes in our air space, not to mention military radar, satellite tracking systems, and missile defense systems, this government had no clue what was in that particular air space? Who is kidding who? If you believe what the media is dishing out, you probably believe our government couldn't locate the hijacked planes on 9/11 either. People are too quick to buy into these government cover stories.

Because THAT's what it was.

People will believe what ever they want to,because the obvious is just that.

San Nicholas ISLAND outlying airfield.

Google it.

I have been there many times.

Nobody ON THE GROUND saw this .

Only one dweeb with a camera in a helicopter.

I saw it... from SR-1 in Malibu returning from a vacation in Santa Cruz. Dozens of people phoned local talk radio as it was happening with various eye witness accounts as well. Please alert Google... lol

You have no idea what you're saying.

If they were landing at an L.A. airport, your argument is reasonable.

The most likely flight is US Aiways flight 808 from Hawaii to Phoenix.

uncinus.wordpress.com...

Map at :
flightaware.com...

Arizona, a full state away, would mean the plane kept at contrail height.
