Hi all, firstly, I don't know where I could of posted this or what the post count is to make a thread, so MODS, please move this to appropiate place.
About 15 years ago I found a stone which is shaped like the handle of a sword. It was found in Ribchester, Lancashire, England that is famous for Romans. But after searching the internet for Roman swords with stone handles, i'm still as confused! Not only can I not find Roman swords with stone handles, but I can't find any swords with stone handles.
I'm pretty sure its part of a sword because there are areas of rust, and a piece of metal sticking out from it. It also has groves which makes it perfectly fit in your hand. I will upload a link to the pictures, when my phone decides to let me. Can anybody help or tell me where to get help on this matter?

i think you need 20 posts to start a thread and it sounds like a statue sword?

no sense in making sword handles out of stone. how would you keep the blade in it for all the wear and tear in one battle?

I would really like to see the pictures you have of this object. I am always looking for artifacts that just don't seem to belong.

If the stone is marble, the most likely solution would be that it was part of a statue..Couldn't imagine stone making the best sword handle.
That be my guess anyway :-)

Interesting pics, any metallic qualities to it? I was thinking perhaps a piece of meteorite. If this is a meteorite it could be worth a few bucks.

Are you sure that's a handle? It really doesn't look like one to me. But if it is what you say, and it isn't marble as suggested, maybe it's so ancient it is petrified? It really doesn't look like a handle to me at all, I don't see it.

Edit to add: It is really big too. Maybe a part of a stone statue. Still don't see the handle though, sorry.

There is rust on the top (as shown in one of the pictures) and also a small pointy bit of metal poking out of the top bit. Also, the top part looks a different sort of stone, and could possibly have metal inside due to the colouring. One of the other things that stands out is large scratch marks all over it, some quite deep and perfectly straight. Having some problems with the pictures and my computer, but will try get more pictures up.

Could it possibly be a stone tool of sorts, and not part of a sword?

It looks worked on where you were holding it, but too big to wield a sword with I'd imagine.

Never having handled a mediaeval/ancient sword hoever, I could be wrong

Possibly, yes. Whilst I was just holding it, a small part has chipped of and its rusty inside I think.
