CBS station KFMB put in calls to the Navy and Air Force Monday night about the striking launch off the coast of Los Angeles, which was easily visible from the coast, but the military has said nothing about the launch.

i hope that the Navy isn't lying, because if a missile has the potential to be launched from Catalina without detection, that isn't very reassuring for our western defense systems. makes me wonder if R&D for the department of defense isn't really R&D for the department of offense. budum cha!

The location puts it just off the coast at Pt. Mugu NAWS. It's a weapons testing facility.
The Navy are being schtumm because it's obviously something they don't want us to know about.

This was just reported on CNN. They said the Department of Defense, and NORAD are investigating, apparently no military, at least from the US, launched anything. They're saying at this point, it's very much a mystery.

Anyone have any ideas on what could of possibly happened for the missile to launch

I sent a message to my cusin who is in the military down there at one of the bases but i havent got a reply yet. I do know yesterday about 4:30PM PST the Emergency Siren on Ft. Lewis and McChord AFB (Joint Base Lewis McChord) went off for about 5 miniutes. I wonder if this has sompthing to do with what happend in CA.

one of my friends told me yesterday that a nuclear war on edge that he just got back from a trip and had to attend to urgent matters. not sure what he ment but this to could of been what he was talking about.

I posted on the other "mystery missile" threads....thought i would repost here too.
checked the FAA's website out of curiosity and there were no Notices to Airman (NOTAMs) or Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) issued on the night of Monday the 8th for California or the Western Pacific Air Traffic Control zone.

tfr.faa.gov...

If this was a test of the Navy or USAF I would ASSUME their would have been a NOTAM or TFR. I say assume because this missile was in or near the Point Magu Naval Weapons test area. So it is already controlled airspace. However; something like an ICBM or IRBM would, if I remember right have anywhere from a 50 to 250 mile area of exclusion.

Interestingly though, there was several Security NOTAMs for the Beale AFB California airspace. Of couse they fly drones, U2s, and formaly the SR71 out of there, so that's not all that unusual.

tfr.faa.gov...

If this was a test of the US...then it's VERY secret...which is weird because missile tests are normally announced well in advance or admitted too shortly afterwords.

By the way it's on drudgereport.com now.

KFMB showed video of the apparent missile to former U.S. Ambassador to NATO Robert Ellsworth, who is also a former Deputy Secretary of Defense, to get his thoughts. . . .

Ellsworth urged American to wait for definitive answers to come from the military.

When asked, however, what he thought it might be, the former ambassador said it could possibly have been a missile test timed as a demonstration of American military might as President Obama tours Asia.

"It could be a test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile from a submarine … to demonstrate, mainly to Asia, that we can do that," speculated Ellsworth.

Ellsworth said such tests were carried out in the Atlantic to demonstrate America's power to the Soviets, when there was a Soviet Union, but he doesn't believe an ICBM has previously been tested by the U.S. over the Pacific.

Here's a comment from John Pike of globalsecurity.org, it's about a quarter way down in the article.

news.yahoo.com...

Kinda makes sense in a way, since there were no indications anywhere of a missile launch. So the chicken little's can calm down now.

Obviously its a missile and since it came from the ocean, it was likely military in nature. Im not sure why the government is lying about this unless something went wrong like an accidental launch and the government is trying to sweep it under the rug to avoid embarrassment. Another reason why I know they are lying is because they said they didn't track anything on radar. NORAD would have picked that up.

But for some reason if it was not military, there could be a possibility that terrorists could be testing missile launches (maybe firing at planes). The government could know about it and is trying to sweep it under the rug to avoid panic. Either way you look at it, there is a cover-up on this matter. There is just something fishy about all this.

What if it were warning to the US government to stop monetizing their currency? Who is the fastest growing economy in the world and now considered a super power that just might have the ability to sneak up to our shore, launch a missile in protest and vanish again?

Conspiracy, yes, but who is the biggest loser of the US monetizing their debt?

news.yahoo.com...

it says in this article that:
Earlier today, officials from the North American Aerospace Defense Command issued a statement saying that the missile posed "no indication of any threat to our nation," adding that "from all indications this was not a launch by a foreign military."

so it's definitely not from another country.
and if it's really not the military then who? and for what purpose?

I thought they denied it was even a missile (NORAD that is) and clearly stated their opinion was that is was an airline con trail. Which I would expect regardless if it were a US or foreign missile.
