There is a difference between relativistic mass (which is equivalent to total energy of a system) and matter (rest mass), which is part of this energy locked in matter particles, like quarks and qluons. If you convert x particles posessing kinetic energy y to matter (by E=mc2) with zero kinetic energy, you will observe you have more particles than in the beginning, with rest mass x + y. You have created matter from kinetic energy. Energy and rest mass together is still conserved, it just changes ratio - from kinetic energy (E=1/2mv2) to rest mass energy (E=mc2). And this rest mass energy is what we call "matter".

Special relativity shows that rest mass and energy are essentially equivalent via the well-known relationship (E = mc2). Mass is a conserved quantity. From the viewpoint of any single unaccelerated observer, mass can neither be created or destroyed, and special relativity does not change this understanding. However, relativity adds the fact that all types of energy have an associated mass, and this mass is added to systems when energy is added, and the associated mass is subtracted from systems when the energy leaves. In such cases, the energy leaving or entering the system, carries the added or missing mass with it, since this energy itself has mass.

What I was trying to do is explain, as far as I understand, what is actually going on in the LHC- we are not creating something out of nothing merely changing it (as Mr. Mask has said). Don't get me wrong, it would be cool if we did spontaneously inject matter into our system but nothing like that has happened yet. We are definitely well within the defined and understood boundries of physics.

Not sure how medievil fits in to this?

The part I personally find strange is that consciousness can manipulate matter... but thats my view and doesn't really help much.

Yes, yes and the world is flat and ships get eaten by a huge red dragon when they sail off the edge.

You keep quoting these other sites but offer nothing beyond old-world poetry and Newtonian models as your hammer of righteousness.

I can just as easily say you are wrong and so is anyone else that agrees with you.
Using a "Stop the lies" Slogan is nothing more than a tactic to get others to view you as 100% correct without actually knowing if you are or not. This has happened even before you by other with a locked perspective who wished to keep scientific discovery in a contained stasis. if this was allowed we would never have moved into the magnificence of todays innovations.

You are welcome for my time. but please try not to waste anymore of it.

Every morning I wake up a create matter. I take things I've eaten or have already inside me and make matter.

I can't seem to make the matter smell good though.

True enough the L.H.C. is not, nor is science at all claiming to be "creating something from nothing". what has been said is that " new forms of matter can be made by creating new atoms using the technological advancements gained by the information gathered by the L.H.C. The idea of something from nothing is a fallacy and cannot be accomplished at all for the base energies of the universe are ever present. Nowhere have I claimed it was a "something from nothing technology". I clearly wrote that is (The L.H.C.) is using the base materials ("RAW" materials) of the Very kind that formed our universe ("the raw materials of creation"). It is important to realize that using previous methods we could only create molecules by rearranging preexistent atoms as of now due to the L.H.C. and its most recent profound achievement we are able to create new atoms and therefore new molecules comprised of entirely new materials we created out of the base subatomic arrangements which until now was impossible, thereby giving us the newly gained ability to create All together new materials for larger constructive projects for daily application.

If I get banned I wont cry about it. I log in and see much of the same bickering and nothing being done about it and headline posts complaining of it. so since bickering and complaining and downplaying the opinions of others seems predominant here I assumed it was customary as well as proper ATS etiquette..

Thanks for my time.

Although your "poo" is a profound accomplishment I am certain it has nothing to do with subatomic construction on of an entirely new form of matter. if it were it wold then be quite amazing.

For instance if you could "poo" some kind of previously only theorized material thought implausible to even begin to exist; something so foreign it was as if it came out of a comic book such as some kind of gravity altering Goo that forced temporal displacement and/or even vivification of surrounding non biological constructs.

That would then be worth mentioning regardless of the smell.

thank you for my time.

There is a far better chance of that being true, then what your OP here claims was achieved by CERN.

You keep quoting these other sites but offer nothing beyond old-world poetry and Newtonian models as your hammer of righteousness.

1) Your entire "misconception" on what CERN achieved last week, is a failed attempted at trying to quote something you saw online, sir...keep that in mind while you misconstrue that evidence and information.

2) I am not quoting old sites...I am telling you that you are wrong...and THEN trying to show you the scientific law that you should ALREADY know...after all, it is taught to us all in grade school. No need to get angry or offensive.

3) You are still wrong...CERN did not create matter from nothing. No we have never achieved creating matter from nothing. It is impossible as far as we know and predict still to this day. And for your further education- the Conservation of Mass/energy is NOT part of "Newtonian clockwork set of physics". Nice way to throw in a buzz word.

For the record sir...The physics of the structure of matter is non-Newtonian in nature and principle.

You are welcome for my time. but please try not to waste anymore of it.

I think helping someone understand "basic things" is no waste of anyone's time. But I will say I do not understand the hostility you are presenting me here.

Good day and enjoy your "time"...but please try and be more polite around here in the future.

True, I agree we are entering previously inaccessible states of matter. Sorry for the confusion
It is very exciting, I'll join you there!

Edit: Also I see you're like me in that you capture it in an epic way ("Like Gods we create matter!")

Thats right, CERN creates new matter from ENERGY (kinetic energy). OP never said we create matter from nothing, thats of course impossible. He said from "raw materials of creation" which I assumed is meant to be a metaphor for energy (or negative entropy). In that sense, OP is right.

New elements are created in colliders not new matter. And elements can be changed from one form to another by adding or removing protons from the nucleus thru collisions.

Nope, new matter is also created from energy, according to Einsteins E=mc2.
