An archeological team associated with the University of New Mexico recently spent a whopping $26,000 digging for evidence of UFO activity in Roswell.

I found this quite amusing as it was financed by the Sci Fi channel, I have searched for a while and can't find anything about their results. I presume there weren't any as neither article mentions anything having been discovered........they could have paid me 26 grand to tell me there was nothing there

How recently? I remember the Bryant Gumble hosted documentary where they were digging and the Sci-Fi channel paid for it but that was years ago (2002) and found this about those results:

The Sci Fi channel's Roswell Dig findings finally come to light

June 5th, 2009

You may remember the Sci Fi channel’s documentary hosted by Bryant Gumble called The Roswell Crash: Startling New Evidence. A big part of the show is known as the Roswell Dig. Headed by University of New Mexico archeologist, Dr. Bill Doleman.....

In the end they did find some small items that the show of course made a big deal about, but the show ended without any real analysis of the items, promising that it would be included in the next exciting episode.

Last month Dr. Doleman, Zukowksi, and Ziegelmeier held a press conference in Roswell announcing that they were ready to pursue funding to get analysis done. Now they are working with interested parties to get the analysis completed

Controversy

One question did arise, and that was if what was found is worth analyzing. Some claimed that the materials were mundane and that the analysis already completed was sufficient and pointed to nothing special. In response to this Dr. Doleman wrote up a paper listing the items, what they might be, and the analysis that has been done thus far.

Among the items are: rubber from the sole of a shoe, shoe leather, unidentified fibers, clothing thread, burnt rock some with fibers on them, plastic tube, a piece of gray material that is possibly from tape or a trash bag, translucent white plastic, and some orange plastic like material. Perhaps this doesn’t sound too exciting. However, this was all in the middle of the desert where there is little to no human traffic.

You know, I'd have to agree that it doesn't sound too exciting, which probably explains why we never heard more about it.

Here is the show:

UFO - The Roswell Crash - Startling New Evidence - Cd 1

UFO - The Roswell Crash - Startling New Evidence - Cd 2

If this is referring to the same dig, I accuse them of having an overly broad definition of the word "recently" regarding a 2002 TV show.

Here's a link to some of the site report. Haven't found the original on-line yet, but it is more important than the video, anyway.

I'll watch those when i'm at home thanks mate

I wonder why they would re-surface this again if same as the original excavation ,didn't find the stuff about 2005 before so I guess this is more recycled old news (or non-news as it now seems )

Thanks mate looks interesting will read later

Probably a lot of ATS'ers have read up on this before but to me it's new having never been too interested in the whole "Roswell" thing as it's a subject I've always thought didn't hold much water.

I don't know if it's the same excavation or not, I'm just asking the question. But to appear in the 2002 TV show I'm guessing the first excavation was maybe 2001 or so?

If you read the first link I posted it explains several reasons why the 2001-2 or so excavated stuff hasn't been analyzed as of that 2009 article (not sure if it has happened since), the items were the property of BLM since they were found on BLM property for one thing so they needed to obtain permission which supposedly took a while (but 7 years?) and now that they have permission, they don't have funding, and who wants to pay more to have a rubber shoe sole and some shoe leather analyzed?
edit on 9-11-2010 by Arbitrageur because: (no reason given)

The thing is, if you remember back to the time of the incident, even though the story broke on July 8, 1947, the next day, the military explained it as a weather balloon, and this was accepted, and the story died back then. So, the military had ample time to comb the debris site, and make sure no trace would be found. A better idea may be to investigate the second debris site. With the story buried, they likely may not have gone back over the still undisclosed (at that time) site. Of course, with the resurgence of the story in the 70's, maybe they did then. Who knows?

Chances are though, the military did a pretty thorough job of doing a grid search of the site. Still, it'd be worth looking into, but with emphasis on looking deeper in the ground maybe. They may have been rushed when they did the search at this site.
