I have to say I wasnt really sure where to post this. I guess this is a good spot because some religions can sure make a soldier feel guilty while others say they will rest with the virgins or whatever. I dont know, Im not a religious person in that manner.

I do know it isnt easy being a soldier no matter how you look at it and each soldiers heart has their own burdens to bare.

I just got this in a email today. I have no idea who wrote it, and I really wish I did, but I am posting it here in good heart and good faith and also just to say thank you as I feel it is deserved. I somehow think we have all been soldiers at some time or some lifetime, and we have all answered to our Gods one way or another

In honor of veterans day, I just want to thank you for taking your turn this round.

I really hope this brings somebody peace.

The soldier stood and faced God Which must always come to pass He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true? " The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough, And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep, And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear, And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here, They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand, I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God, "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well, Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell."

Sure will be nice if it ends up like that. Thanks.

One thing i would never join the army and i wonder how you people ever accept what you did.

I think you must get all starry eyed and just accept hollywoods version, or something.

Advice to anyone out there, no matter how bad your life is never ever join the military. Just read above, like i said i have never been in the military, but even though my life is absolutely destroyed i would never ever join.

People make there choices in life.

ITs sad that the average soldier has such a strong belief in God, when "those that run forces are the same that burn crosses."

Well this thread certainly taking some interesting twist. Im glad some of you have enjoyed it. It is not the war, it is the man that fights for his right to love and have peace and freedom. Maybe we should turn the old vets on Washington, clean that nest out, and then maybe we wont have to worry about this nonsense anymore and all will have peace with their Gods.

I don't know if they burn a lot of crosses, but they sure burn a lot of bridges

Sadly and even more so in these days, the level of may having to actually fight is coming more and more into play. I can remember a time when folks joined the service in America at least, to be all they could be. If it was to get a education or to learn a trade or even a career. I dont think people must be guilted into fearing God because of this choice they made. If they were following their hearts is that not part of the divine plan according to some beliefs?

I think vets have seen enough ugliness and I think if the soldier was honorable in their stance, God is the last one they should fear repercussions from. I mean whos to say they werent just living out their destiny for this round?

Well you don't know your rear-end from a whore-house then. You blame the men and women who joined the armed forces for the decisions the lousy civilians in government make? Those people who also never served? Those idiots who tell the military where to go and what to do? You are clueless.

On the field of battle, on the land, in the air, upon the sea, or under the sea - when the SHTF no man or woman is an atheist.

It's sweet to see all these morons who never wore the uniform, give their "informed" opinions on those who did and still do. They know as much about military service as a rock does about fornication.

I salute the OP for this post, even as I rage at those who haven't got a clue, but exercise their rights earned with the blood of the men and women in uniform, to make idiots of themselves about a subject they no NOTHING about, disparaging the service and sacrifice of those who risked everything for their sorry asses.

- MDP out.

Thank you my friend, it has actually made me a bit sad to see this fall by the wayside. I certainly understand your anger as well. The good news is they aren't the ones judging you when you get to the pearly gates eh?
