A word form your friendly "Business Consultant"...

This site has grown to be an incredible community made up of intelligent, creative and spunky people from all walks of life and all regions of the world.

The explosive growth of ATS has been spoken of time and time again and we all realize it has been caused by the PARTICIPATION of our beloved members.

We now have a new feature that is not available anywhere else in this type of forum, Instant Mobile Phone Photographic up links. I want to point out how huge this can be.

With our membership scattered all over the world ALL of us can get real time, photographic evidence of events as they happen which just a couple years ago would've been absolutely impossible.

This feature has the potential to make some members famous and best of all, INFORMED. This feature can put us all "on the scene" in real time anywhere in the world.

The only requirement of us as a community is to use it and make it a reality.

Imagine being the person who captures a huge event photographically and by virtue of posting the pic here on ATS the news agencies pick it up and run with it!

The possibilities are nearly limitless and the potential is astounding.

Hi Springer!

Yes, well said! Unfortunately, I don't possess a mobile phone with this facility, so I'm unable to present "scoop" images through this technolgy

However, I'm sure there are quite a few of our readers/ contributors "out there" who *have* got one of these and I look forward to seeing these images as they become available!
I'm sure people will give this their utmost support - sometimes the rate of change of technology is astounding, isn't it? (I can remember as a child being amused by talking through two tin cans and a piece of string!!
)

Oh. I didn't realize it was only for serious events only, not personal stuff.

There are 3 ways to participate... Serious News [email protected] -- this gets the news events you're seeing posted immediately as a submission in the ATSNN news forum. Serious Conspiracy [email protected] -- are you around things, places, or historical context of the things we discuss in the forums? Snap it and send it. It appears in the AboveTopSecret mobile images forum... and then may be moved to the appropriate topical forum after you edit with your comments. Community Fun [email protected] -- share images of your life with your community members here at ATS. Anything that doesn't conflict with our terms & conditions is fair game. Snap it and send it, it appers in the BTS mobile images forum. With the first one, and even the second one, the whole point is to use our available technology as a means to publish the truth. Digital photos can be altered. Uploaded photos can be manipulated... but images from a camera-phone have a unique authenticity guaranteed by the submitting cell-phone and the unique date-stamp file name applied. We're the first with something like this... let's also be the best, the model everyone attempts to copy.

There is a BTS version of the picture threads forum, for the not so serious pics.
I can't wait till I get my picture phone in a couple of months time, I'll have go out scouring my area for good things to snap.
At least this whole idea gives purpose to those who have picture phones but don't know anyone with a picture phone to swap photos with.

Can this be done by the user that uploads the image and if so how? Or does this have to be done by the Mod staff?

Amen Springer!

If I had one, I would be all over this, so I also encourage everyone who can to participate. In fact, I like it so much I might just have to go buy a new phone...after all, I bought the t-shirt. (Didn't you?)

So let the ATS photographic news begin it's attack on the world. Some other wanna-be site can have the "think I saw a ufo" story posts. Let's see the "think I saw a ufo AND HERE IS THE PICTURE" posts.

Eventually... in that forum only. Once you modify your original submission, you will be able move it to the appropriate topical forum (but not ATSNN), or keep it there.

This is an awesome addition to ATS. Now if only I had one of those camera phone thingies.....
To all who do have them, I look forward to seeing the pics and reading the posts! I think catching news while it happens, or something else to do with ATS, will definately, as Springer said, "put us all "on the scene" in real time anywhere in the world."

I'm very pleased that I am not the only Luddite who does not have a camera phone. This new feature is almost enough to make me want one and get out of the house occasionally!

I'm with you guys in that I can't wait to see what kind of post come about as a result of this new tech.

what id like to know is how much would it cost to send it to who ever gets the image cause if its in america its going to cost n arm and a leg to send it mainly for the people in the uk. over here its cost quiet a bit to send those kind of things

For most service plans, the cost of sending a picture e-mail from your camera-phone is simply airtime. My account allows 40 pictures a month, then after 40, they're charged against my airtime total. So, since it's e-mail, the cost should be nothing or very very minimal.

I'm not sure how this feature meets any market from the reactions above, but I hope it is used with substance in mind and is not just adding to the vast array of bells and whistles at ATS.

The pics are sent to an email addy... Surely it doesn't cost you any "more" to send email to America from the U.K. than it does anywhere else right?

I can't imagine it costs anymore to send to ATS than it costs to send to your friend down the street.

Hrmm... have you ever had anything positive to say about any effort to be progressive here at ATS?

This new setup with the pics may seem a little "out there" or "nerdy" now, but give it 1 or 2 years time and EVERY camera sold will have pix ability.

It will only take one member to fire up "that pic", of a major event to give us world wide attention. Such as a pic from a riot, or the beating of the man by the police, etc.

Suddenly its only 2 seconds from happening to seeing. The more members armed with cameras out there all over the world, the more amazing will be our coverage.

In some way we are an nacient CNN, with the power of reporting in the hands of the members. Its a form of true democratic reporting. As this grows, and hopefully expands, the power of the site will grow.

All you need to do is lock the address into your address book and take your camera out to interesting events, disasters, meetings, etc and stay aware of whats happening, or going to happen.

The world won't know what hit it... and SO will be looking for another server

As soon as I get a camera-phone, you'll be getting some pix from the Pisky

Pisky pics for everybody

Actually I have given some thought about upgrading my phone also, but couldnt come up with a use for the phone feature before..

but this just gives the photo-phone a purpose worthy of consideration.

This is an excellent feature at ATS. And very unique. I can see this as a huge difference of purpose and a value added feature that will set us apart from anyone else.
