Pardon the alliteration in the thread title. Long time lurker, recently decided to give myself a voice here on this website.

This being my first thread started, It was a toss up between a couple topics but I figured this would be easiest. The purpose is simple: Browse Incident reports on WarLogs, find anything interesting, post them here. I'll start with a few that got my attention:

Cross border incident (firefight!) between Iraqi/Syrian Border guards

IBP ENGAGED THE SMUGGLERS, AT WHICH TIME THE --- FORCES POSITIONED ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BORDER BEGAN FIRING AT THE ---.

This one is interesting because of the tactics used..gives you a real idea of how these things play out...how the insurgent fled to the hospital, received treatment and dipped out..
Sniper Maneuvers

THE COMBINED SNIPER TEAM MOVED TO A BETTER --- POINT WHERE THEY SAW THE VEHICLE OVERTURNED IN A NEARBY FIELD AND (---) INDIVIDUAL BEING DRAGGED FROM THE TRUCK.

And on a more disturbing note...who tries to get through a checkpoint with a body in the trunk...

IA REPORTS STOPPING A VEHICLE ATTEMPTING TO GET THROUGH CP --- THAT HAD BLOOD DRIPPING OUT OF THE TRUNK.

I'll continue to post when i find more incidents I think are note-worthy. This is not a slight at the men & women serving, nor is it saying I support Julian Assange in anyway. I just have a certain fascination with the way conflict occurs, I hope this doesnt come across as morbid. There is another smuggling incident that was flagged on the war-logs website Im looking for I will post when I find it.

Also, I don't know whats up with the "log on" option on the war-logs website because it doesnt seem to either work or serve a purpose. at least not from the 2 terminals I've tried to use it on.

Happy posting, Just something to browse in everybodys downtime...thanks

SF thanks for the interesting thread. I don't think that it is morbid.

Good idea for a thread.

Here is a pretty good article from Wired talking about some interesting events as well:
Hidden Bases, Secret Raids: WikiLeaks Reveals CIA’s Iraq Ops

“OGA” employees did just launch attacks — they came under attack, too. One report from 2004 recounts a platoon northeast of Tikrit encountering a car full of self-described OGA personnel carrying an individual shot in the thigh from recent small arms fire. Another document describes an “OGA” convoy which had its rear vehicle disabled by an insurgent ambush “while returning from a mission.”

nice i hadn't seen that one before thanks

I thought this was interesting: I wonder exactly what "show of force means" there were no casualties listed on this one...I hope "show of force" means a fighter jet breaking the sound barrier right above the crowd...

If you've ever heard that up close you know how it feels..

ELEMENT REPORTS THAT --- ARE THROWING ROCKS, USING SLING-SHOTS TO SHOOT ROCKS, AND HAVE THROWN --- X GLASS BOTTLES FULL OF FUEL/OIL AT THE ELEMENT. AWT ENROUTE TO PROVIDE AERIAL SHOW OF FORCE.

Also from the "sniper" incident I posted in the OP...

EOD RESPONDED AND DETERMINED THAT THE (---) WHITE SACKS CONTAINED (---) 122MM HE PROJECTILES AND () ----LITER BOTTLE OF HOMEMADE NAPALM ATTACHED TO A --- PLUS LRCT BASE STATION.

Really? Home made Napalm? I've heard of a way to make this but I wont write it here, don't want to give anybody any bad ideas

I bought that "medal of honor" game but it sucked so I returned it..I thought that "Tier One" stuff was distorted but check this out:

REPORTED THAT BEAST AND DARK RIDER ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER AIF BODY BUT CAME UNDER FURTHER SAF.

This is a TIER ONE THREAT BOX

Why would they need or want to recover an AIF(Anti-Iraqi Forces) body...cool nicknames though. Like I said I figured it was an exaggeration when I heard "Tier one" but they are really out there being Billy BAD-ASSES

MORTAR ATTK AT FOB (): 22 DETAINEES DEAD; 94 INJ

THE MORTAR IMPACTED IN THE DETAINEE HOLDING AREA.

UPDATE: PRISONER DETAINEES WERE IN TENTS, WHICH ARE SANDBAGGED. ROUNDS HIT DIRECTLY ON THE TENTS WHICH CAUSED THE HIGH CASUALTIES.

Now that you hipped me to the OGA code I found a different way to search for incidents using keywords. Found this

REPORTS TWO WHITE SEDANS FIRING AT TOWER. TOWER ___ RETURNED FIRE

REPORTS DOS (BLACK SEDAN) RECEIVING HEAVY FIRE FROM IA VIC ___

: HATCHET ___ (IA MITT) REPORTS SEDANS RAN IA CHECKPOINT (VIC ___), SHOT AT IA SOLDIERS, THREW GRENADES AT IA SOLDIERS, THEN FLED.

THE TWO BLACK SEDANS WERE AN OGA CONVOY. AFTER THE ___ AT THE CP 1X BLACK ___ MOVED INTO THE IZ THROUGH GATE ___ CLAIMING THAT THEY WERE EVACUATING CASUALTIES TO THE IZ, NO CASUALTIES WERE TAKEN TO THE CSH BY THE DOS CONVOY.

TOWER ___ REPORTED THAT THE PERSONNEL IN THE BLACK SEDAN EXITED THE VEHICLE, THREW ___ INTO THE VEHICLE, THEN ENTERED THE ADJACENT BUILDING.

1x SEDAN DESTROYED
Wild stuff...

Good on you for keeping up on this and going through them, I haven't taken much time since the day they were released.

I am surprised more on ATS haven't looked through them.

That is the primary way to deny ignorance about the issue...

Thanks again dude I just find this stuff fascinating . The actual website (if you go through wikileaks to get to warlogs)is hard to get into but if you link to the "OGA" incident I found it is in a different format...you can search keywords, or casualty numbers, ect. and it makes things a bit less tedious than randomly slogging though wikileaks. That being said, heres some other stuff I found:

Customs Police were informed of large suspicious shipping containers belonging to a security company (name unknown - although it is suspected to be ___) that were not accompanied with the correct legal paperwork. On opening the containers the following was found: ___ x ___ variants; one small machine gun (___ Magazines); '___' (two loaded); ___ sets of ___; one telescope; one ___.5mm pistol; ___ smoke grenades; one battle noise simulator; ___ x ___ magazines (empty); ___ x 50mm ___ heavy machine gun; one ___ with loaded Magazine; ___ sets of body armour (type unknown); ___ machine gun magazines; ___ plates ( ___ CITY; ; ___ CITY); ___ ID Cards (one issued by BASRAH Police HQ) 3 details unknown; ___ bottles of alcohol. The intended destination of the above items is unknown. All items were taken to Customs Police HQ.

"western" smuggling op?

So X amount of body armour and what seems to be a ton of munitions for a "security company" found coming from S. A*abia...along with Police ID cards(forgeries clearly otherwise why would they be smuggled into the country)...Im gonna take a guess at the "PLATES" then listed by city..(liscence plates anyone?)
I say western agency b/c of the bottles of alcohol listed

& a "Battle Noise Simulator" huh...did some googling after I posted and the closest thing I could find was stuff used in movie production...

OTHER ANIMALS MUST HAVE DRUNK THE WATER IMMEDIATELY AFTER IT WAS POURED-IN, RESULTING IN THEIR DEATH. THE MIXTURE THEN USUALLY DISSIPATES INTO THE ---.

grenade simulator's and artillery simulator's are common and used in iraq.

Say you have a night time checkpoint on a road and there is a drainage ditch near by that the insurgents might use to lauch a attack on you. in Vietnam we used claymore mines. You can not do that now because you might kill civilians.
But because the insurgents might send in unarmed civilians first to see if you are watching and maybe would fire on movement. of course if you killed unarmed civilians you would look real bad.
But if nothing happened the insurgents would use the ditch to make there attack.

So you get smart and seed the drainage ditch with non lethal grenade simulator's and artillery simulator's.

The civilians get the C**p scared out of the by all the explosions. They praise Allah that they survived and go home to change there pants
The insurgents praise Allah that it was not them and think the civilians were lucky to survive and never use the drainage ditch for a attack.

You set back at the check point and laugh at it knowing someone will have to change there pants.
plus now you know that the insurgent are out there and watching.

The pilot lost signal of the bird and it is assumed to have crashed possibly shot down over village. --- at approximately --- feet. As --- about --- minute before falling down, it saw --- LN on a --- in and --- vehicle in the abandon village. Not planning to recover .

EQUIPMENT FAILURE RPT

what would they not want to recover something that crashed even if it was just a uav...speaking of which

DOWNED UAV
UAV LOST
UAV CRASH
UAV DOWN
UAV LOST

In one of these instances it seems to be that the camera was still on when someone picked up the drone and started walking away with it. In another it was searched for and never found. What do you think a piece of hardware like that is worth to a villager. Nothing! Whats it worth to the guys right across their eastern border...everything.

Very interesting events, again thanks.

It makes me curious about every single one, just to see if they are all that interesting.

Back when the logs came out, I remember I was trying a couple searches of terms listed as the possible/alleged Echelon keywords... there are a lot of them.

Echelon Keywords

Just a thought, new way to explore them (but I'm not sure if those keywords are at all relevant for ground operations)

whaat if we found something that crashed in the 1st gulf conflict?

2X AIRCRAFT MISSILE UNUSABLE

EXPLOSIVE REMNANTS OF WAR
this one seems to fall in to the category of "remnants of war" & "none selected".

If it was anti-aircraft I assume there would be an acronym, this seems to be an actual "aircraft missile"?

On google earth it looks like a dead end road with a possible blast pattern. I dunno...
