MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised Alert Level 1 on Bulusan volcano after it spewed ash on Saturday morning.

Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum told radio dzMM that the volcano ejected "steam and ash" that reached an approximate height of 600 meters at 8:11 a.m.

Phivolcs said in a bulletin posted on its website that the "ash ejection was reflected as an explosion type earthquake with a duration of 57 seconds.

The release of ash happened hours after a 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake hit.

"People residing near the valleys and streams should be on extra alert against sediment-laden stream flows in the event of heavy rains," the Phivolcs said in its bulletin.

Bulusan Volcano Alert Level Raised

Alot of earthquakes, volcanic activity, going on right now. I also read that in Indonesia an explosion of ash was released from Merapai and was around 450-600 degrees Celsius.

Just another one to add to the list.

Yeah, supposedly the one erupting in Nigeria has been dormant for 840,000 years!!! At least that is how I read it. Please forgive me if I am wrong about that as I am a novice and it is very hard to get any info about this particular volcano. Probably because it hasn't erupted or shown signs of erupting for so long.

I believe the photo is ash from Indonesia.
Earlier I saw a photo of a cassestte radio with the middle of it partly melted due to how hot the ash was. I can only imagine what the people felt.
