Taste though is not a symbol. The word 'taste' is the symbol.
Taste is sensation. And sensation is not a symbol.
Sensation is what constitutes you.

Though when in deep sleep even sensation ceases.
So i question my own conclusion.
Sensation must also be a symbol.
But a true symbol, a living breathing symbol.
Like the sound of a cymbal.

There is no word or concept that can explain what this life experience is.
But it is always happening right now, so we can have a good go at trying.
