Thanks for the update. Since you know the language please let us know if they discover anything more about the actual cause. Who knows, maybe the US military used a lazer on the embankment or something?

It's not the harbor that is going to file for insurance , it is the companies that own or take logistic care of the freight for their customers . And they have the right to get insurance payout if they (or the cargo) were insured against natural disasters in my opinion.

As someone else stated, its next to water...lake, river, ocean etc. It looks like erosion.
We get a lot of this over here in the uk....theres been many villages that have fallen off the sides of cliffs due to erosion.
Its amazing how fast it seems to happen....im unsure if the first part of the video is sped up, but the bird seems to be going at a normal pace.??

It looks like its built on bad land, it built next to water, i kinda think this is inevitable given these circumstances.

There have been a lot of sink holes reported lately but i do not feel there is any evidence to point to anything sinister.
A lot of these sink holes appear over sewers and underground infrastructure....bad building techniques along with bad terrain is obviously going to end in disaster....when.....no one knows.

It's not a sinkhole, it's a mudslide. Please take a look at the source of your video and even perhaps tell us your source if it indeed says that it is a 'sinkhole'.

That was a cool video. I wonder who was filming though. They just happend to be filming from the side of a mountain above a road when this happened or is there a road up where the film was taken at or what. Almost like someone knew it was going to happen so got into position. It appears teh camera was on a tripod as the images are very direct in movement when they move and very stable when stopped.

THAT is the video I saw last night on AlarmaTV. the quality was not good and they showed about 20 seconds of it, and didnt have a title in the headline for the vid. I searched so hard for this vid last night and could not find it.
Even a few other members were trying to help me.

I had to post a thread right after I saw it...I knew it would blow other peoples minds, cause it sure blew mine.
All I could do was describe what I saw as best as I could until I could find the news vid.

I Understand Portuguese.
In the first video (Op) these are some of the facts.

- The camera that was recording is of an internal circuit of the operations port
- they refer to the port of Chibatão (it WAS not manaus)
- The disaster occurred on October 17/2010 but the video was released until day 25 in all the national news
- The authorities do not know how the video was obtained by the press (cameras are not public)
- Its a LANDSLIDE not a sinkhole

Hmmmm. I've seen another thread here on ATS like two or three days ago about More and more sinkholes appearing. This is very interesting. We all need to keep and eye on this. Especially because November is supposedly a significant month, well everyone keeps saying it is. Very perplexing....

Technically from the looks of it it looks more like a land slide due to probably erosion from rain or that lake really coudent tell what type of body of water it was looked more like a river to me. But I'm no geologists but it jus looks like the land was jus washed away!

I would be curious to know how many cubic meters of material moved. If it was indeed just a landslide then, to me that would equate a tsunami as an after effect of said material. If there was no tsunami, then I would be led to believe that the material and water was kept at the events epicenter or there was not enough material in motion to generate a tsunami.


Either way, I feel for the loss of life, if there is shown to be casualties.

Something else to worry about, this isn't pretty, particularly if you're sitting right near or on the spot as it disappears, swallowed up. That looked to me to be quite a large area that quickly just melted away.

Seems to be a lot more of this activity going on.

Holy moly.

Any idea what causes this?

Going to research this but that video is going to give me nightmares.

Too much oil has been pumped out of the ground for the last hundred of years and there this huge empty underground chambers have been created all around the globe by the continuous oil drilling activity. And recently the earth is shaking up due to the disturbances caused by the approaching, out of the plane, rogue Planet X which also causes the gusty windy weather condition all over the world. And the empty underground chambers are now being filled up by whatever the land mass nearby or from remote. I think this is a symptom of the Earth crust reorganizing itself. No wonder sinkholes are reported everywhere.
