Mysterious, Headless Sea Creature Washes Ashore

Of unknown origin and species, so far, the odd-looking seaside carcass sits
high and dry on the low tide, its approximately 15-foot length includes a
pointed, 10-foot tail twisted in the sand, conjuring up Loch Ness monsters
for some.

The animal, bearing a single flipper-like appendage on its right side,
appears to have been decapitated and shows other signs of damage. (More info in the link after the jump)

Interesting to say the least. The head looks like it was almost cleanly cut off too. I wonder if more pictures will be released soon.

Pretty incredible. Since this thread is pretty old I wonder if anyone has come up with some answers as to what it might be...or how the head was shorn off so cleanly...propellers?

The problem with the seal hypothesis is that there is a long tail on this thing. I'm thinking it's some severely deformed seal, but if it were then it wouldn't have grown to such a size because it would have died after it was born. Seals can't swim with a long tail like that.

Weird. Cryptozoological creature for sure.

After a (very) quick search, I came across this website with some more photo's which show the creature more clearly... www.cbc.ca...

I don't know what it is? Could it be some kind of giant, deep-sea flatworm?

I did find one update, but at the time, it wasn't conclusive...but did suggest a decomposed whale or shark of some type (most likely a basking shark, as most of these carcasses seem to end up as...)

Yeah, that think looks a lot like a squid on the body, and the "tail" could be it's tentacles, but there shouldn't be just 1 big arm, there should be 8 arms and 2 tentacles. Maybe it is truly some species no one has yet discovered?

I found it odd that I couldn't find anything on the internet that gave a definitive explanation as to what exactly this thing is. In your experience, do you think that means we can write this find off as having a prosaic explanation? An explanation not worthy of making the news?

Looks like a Ray or Skate to me!

I have seen them easily bigger than the one pictured,at least 5 ft across!

I really would like to know what the outcome of all this was.

If it were truly an undiscovered creature then surely we would have heard about it through the MSM by now. It's peculiar that nothing is reported after the event - not even a 'debunking' rebuttal.

I think that's a great call. It appears to be a ray or skate of some kind. However, still, the tail doesn't look normal for a ray or skate. Still a mystery!

Could be a beached whale or type of manatee even (mutated of course).
