Any rift between Russia ans Iran is a serious weakening of Irans position.
The danger here I suppose is that China may step in to supply Iran with similar equipment.
meanwhile the door remains open to Isreal, and anyone else...to attck Irans nuclear infrastructure.
It may be possible that this developement will have been arranged to facilitate such an occurance.

Yes those are good points.
Russia were forced into it by the sactions imposed,but the real reason probably lies in Russia getting something in return.
Russia never agrees to anything unless there is something in it for them.
Cancellation of the Polish missile shield probably was one factor-although there still remains the issues about proposed alternatives.Whilst there will be a Nato Russian summit to discuss this later in November,Russia still feels than anything in Eastern Europe is a threat to their own capabilities refusing to believe it is for rogue nations in the middle East.
We should not forget that Iran has Allies in the Middle East,who share their hatred of the West and the US.
Although Russia has agreed to sanctions against Iran-its made it clear that any military attack would be unacceptable to them.
Even if Israel did do the job,it would not lessen the consequences for everyone.
The China possibilities are real yet unpredictable.
There are rumours that Belarus have previously already supplied Iran with S300s and the launchers for them a couple of years ago.Lukashenko has denied this,but its not impossible to rule it out.

link to that story;

Minsk has denied the report (which was supposedly tied in with Oil deals)

Meanwhile-more disturbing reports emerge that Iran could still get their hands on these;

We dont generally credit debka with a lot of veracity by now.....harretz either for that matter.....
I would rather see it on any other news providers site, for confirmation.....
The S 300s are a major factor in the equation over there.It is aparent that Iran has been relying on having the system ringed around Busheir and Natanz by now.
The reactor is now fuelled, though i am not sure it is working yet due to the Suxtnet worm which has supposedly disbled much of the computer control systems used in the nuclear field in Iran.
How much and how badly the worm has set their programs back, is a matter for master spies to judge, but it does seem to have been reasonably effective to date.
