A baby dinosaur approximately the size of a pug dog scurried alongside what may have been its mom or dad some 148 million years ago in what is now foothills near Denver, scientists reported Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in Denver.

Recently discovered baby sauropod hind track from the Late Jurassic Morrison Formation, Morrison, Colorado, USA.
They caught the paleo-action in the footprints left behind there near the town of Morrison, Colo. The scientists think the dinosaur prints, a set of infant prints next to partial prints from an adult, belonged to Apatosaurus, a sauropod -- giant, long-necked dinosaurs that preferred veggies -- and once known as Brontosaurus. As an adult, Apatosaurus is the largest dinosaur found in the Denver metro area, the researchers say, spanning a length of three school buses and weighing as much as eight Asian elephants.

"The distance between each step is two times wider than what we observe in walking tracks, indicating the animal was at a low-speed run," Mossbrucker said. "I am not aware of any running sauropod tracks anywhere."

Well, I think this is great news but... I find it a little hard to believe they know so much details about it. I don't know. But hey, great find.

I wish there was more to put with this story but there isn't. Just too new I guess.

One thing I did see on the border was a Related Story which indicated China has 1000's of Dino fossils. I wish I could go back in time and observe the world at anytime I chose to etc. Who knows, maybe that's what Heaven can be for me. A big comfy recliner....clicker in one hand....

I really don't know much about Dino's other than to say I find it freaky to know they roamed and ruled the Earth at one time. Kinda puts us in perspective.

Seems like alot going on in Colorado. Dinosaur foot prints. UFO and alien ballot initiative. Weird stuff at the International Airport. Maybe I need to plan a visit soon!
Good find here.

LOL great points.

No wonder Peckman stays out there. Never been to Col myself. I was beginning to really doubt I will go there-with all the crazy liberals there.

You forgot to mention the little Ramsey girl. Now there's a mystery in itself.

Tracks can reveal a great deal about animal anatomy and behavior. While they only have one skeleton to leave behind they can leave behind thousands of tracks which may be preserved if conditions are right.
Many Paleontologists are beginning to learn how to read animal tracks, for example how they knew that they had found tracks of a running Sauropod due to the length of the stride being double what that had found before.
Tracks can also tell you about the structure of the animal, how it moved reveals a great deal about it. When found in groups it can be a good indicator that they were social or pack animals and moved together for safety.
I have several books on the subject and I find it absolutely fascinating. I got started tracking animals long ago but it has only been recently that dinosaur prints were given serious attention by mainstream science.
Several of the best trackways are in danger of destruction due to exposure to the elements and I hope they can be preserved before they are lost. They hold a vast amount of information on these animals and are extremely important resources.
Thanks for posting this

I've seen tons and tons of dinosaur tracks in Arizona. I don't understand why it's such a big deal, according to the OP.

Maybe you should contact the expedition team and show them where they are. They are the ones making a big deal of it.

I assumed it was the baby tracks, the size of a pug, next to the parents tracks.

Can you please get some better pics of baby dino tracks and post them up here. The ones they have.....

I never saw any pictures of baby dino tracks side by side with adult.
Kinda dumb to premise an article on it and then not show it, eh?

I rather suspect it is simply because they are tracks from a baby... awwww isn't that cute?
That hillside is covered in dinosaur tracks. Really is pretty cool but it has nothing on Dinosaur National Monument. For anyone who doubts that dinosaurs walked this earth, it is well worth the trip.
