U.S. concerned about former Guantanamo prisoners in Yemen

www.chicagotribune.com

Reporting from Washington —
As the U.S. ratchets up security on cargo packages and digs deeper into the plot to send bombs from Yemen, officials are concerned that a number of high-ranking members of Al Qaeda in Yemen were released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to a Saudi rehabilitation program for militants.

According to Charles Schmitz, who came on the BBC World News Service, he said "The united states has been there for some time, in a training capacity, in an intelligence capacity, providing equipment, all geared to increasing Yemens ability to fight terrorism. There has also been direct action, there have been predator drone attacks, there was a cruise missile that was shot in as well, so there have been direct attacks. Although they have been under the cover of using the Yemeni air-force. " He also says the support for al-queda is very limited in Yemen, because all there purpose seems to be is to blow stuff up, they are now concerned about there economy, and possible over reactions. Also I'm sure some of you remember the 2009 strike on Yemen, and people fearing Obama might have widened the war on terror into Yemen.

Whether the bombs were genuinely sent by "terrorists" or home-grown for effect, they're being used to garner support for increased activity in Yemen. Suddenly all roads lead to Yemen, perhaps because Iran and North Korea are refusing to make it easy for us to invade them.

Yemen Covert Role Pushed
The foiled mail bombing plot by suspected al Qaeda militants in Yemen has added urgency to an Obama administration review of expanded military options that include putting elite U.S. hunter-killer teams that operate secretly in the country under Central Intelligence Agency authority.

...justifying direct action from US military units...

Obama prepares to expand military attacks in Yemen
According to the report, these plans would include placing “elite US hunter-killer teams that operate secretly in the country under Central Intelligence Agency authority.” The Journal added, “The White House is already considering adding armed CIA drones to the arsenal against militants in Yemen, mirroring the agency’s Pakistan campaign.”

...extremely pro-active action!

President Peace Prize Sending “Extremely Pro-active Moderates Squads” to Yemen as the Moderate Bus Rolls On
...it gives Hillary Clinton at the state department more control of killing people in Yemen who are resisting a corrupt president and government who are in the pockets of big US and British businesses. When situations like that developed in the past in countries like Chile under Pinochet and Indonesia under Suharto, we used to call those groups “death squads”. I suppose now we just call them “extremely pro-active moderates“

...

The laughable part of the whole thing is that the event which supposedly justifies using US soldiers as death squads, the “alleged” airplane mail bomb, is falling apart as we speak (kinda like the last fake terrorist plot out of Yemen). Turns out that UPS didn’t have any flights out of Yemen those two days (so they changed the story) and the girl whom they arrested for allegedly using her real phone number on the packaging slips (damn stupid terrorists, huh?) was released because she is clearly innocent (so they changed that story too).. plus there is the little detail from Great Britain who clearly stated that the power wasn’t even explosive (though they did graciously change their story as well after president peace thingy made a public statement here in the US that the bomb WAS explosive… how nice of them. You know Britan is on the Moderate Bus)

Paul Joseph Watson's article on prisonplanet.com lists a number of issues with the ink-bomb story

- how did Obama know that the East Midlands package was a confirmed explosive at virtually the same time that the package was found?

- how did explosives experts fail to identify the package as explosives after 6 hours of inspection?

Did Obama Order British Authorities To Find Non-Existent Ink Bomb?

- After having examined the suspicious ink toner device for six hours and found it to be a dud, bomb experts at East Midlands Airport only reversed their decision after being ordered to re-inspect the package by US authorities following President Obama’s Friday afternoon speech in which he claimed that the devices did in fact contain explosives.

This telling contradiction in the timeline of the cargo bomb plot fiasco proves that the story was being hyped and manipulated from the very early stages.

- Obama was informed of the plot at 10:35PM eastern Thursday night, despite the fact that the East Midlands package was only first discovered roughly at the exact same time – 3:30am on Friday morning UK time. British Prime Minister David Cameron was kept firmly out of the loop – he was not informed until Friday afternoon.

How did Obama and his terror chief John Brennan know that the East Midlands package was an explosive device virtually at the same time bomb experts had only just discovered the device at East Midlands Airport and before they had even had the chance to analyze it?

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police stated: “Following initial examination explosives officers were satisfied that the package presented no immediate danger.”

Authorities at East Midlands only reversed their earlier assessment after “(US) authorities urged the British to look again, a US official said,” reports the Nottingham Post.

- So is it credible that bomb professionals whose expertise and training is focused around detecting explosives, failed to do so after a six hour sweep, only to change their minds after being ordered to look again by the US government?

- What did Obama know and when did he know it? The timeline strongly indicates that US terror authorities knew about the East Midlands device before East Midlands bomb experts had even discovered it.

- Police and bomb experts at East Midlands have refused to comment on the confusion.

Well duh.

What would be on your mind if you ever got released from a torture facility? (not promoting or endorsing, just explaining the common sense behind it)

Some wise man said something to the effect once, if you pull out a gun you'd better use it and not give your enemy the chance to come back, or he'll do so with increased purpose.

Gitmo was by no means a rehabilitation facility. If anything it gave the people there proof that their actions were justified. If we had any intentions of ever releasing them, we would have detained them and treated them ethically with extreme amounts of compassion.
