Bright orange star seen over Brighton UK

I don't think what I saw were lanterns. It moved with pace in a straight line and was incredibly bright. I saw another orange light drifting about in the sky a few days later. No real purpose to its movements, flickered out of view for a few seconds now and then. My friends who saw the original light thought it was a plane, but we're near Gatwick airport and I see lots of planes overhead. None of them look like that.

the light looked a bit like that, but the speed and direction were more plane like. Same goes for the formation ones seen over Worthing last year.

A plane of some sort is the only earthly explanation I find likely.
