I had my first full year gardening this year, soil is a bit poor, but have plenty of compost for next year.
Some items in my local supermarket have gone up 20 cents in a week! (honey, rolled oats to name two).
Whole meal bread has gone up 80 cents in a year from my local baker. Dried milk at the supermarket goes up and down like a yo-yo in price. Cheese is rising slowly. Two weeks ago it was $15.00 for 9 pork chops, now its down to seven pork chops for the same money.
I actively look for the 'two for one' in the food shops, and specials. I don't see any harm in spending spare cash on building up a food stock, 'just in case' same applies to seeds
I am on a fixed low income, so I am worried.

I am buying dehydrated food that has a shelf life from 15 to 20 years. The delicious gourmet food is reasonable priced and retains nutrients with no additives or chemicals and I have received free food from the well established company by referring others. ^Y^

Hey everyone,
I whole-heartily agree. Definitely stock up on seeds. Also, learn how to can your foods. Stock up on dry foods. Plant extra, that way you could still have seeds, bulbs, etc. to replant the following year.
I also raise my own chickens, geese & now doves so we should be okay. If I had a milk cow, I would definitely be set.

Just reported on the BBC News: food prices are rocketing world wide. We're seeing increased demand from developing countries not only to support the growing populations, but for animal feed.

Canadian news has also been reporting this for the last 2 days. Also the fully developed countries are eating more meats, also causing grain prices to rise, due to feeding the meat.

And it`s not just the food. Anything made with cotton is also going up in price.

This past year had too many disasters - droughts, floods, fires, freezing.....
