I never paid much attention to pageants, but what I read here shocked me:

jezebel.com...

Yeah, why not, if you can't get what you want just work with what you've got, right

Do any of you have any sort of experience with pageants? What do you think about them? Is this really confined to the South as some claim?

Have a nice Halloween!

You know if these boneheads did this kind of things to dogs and cats there would be a massive outcry. Why not let the kids play or read or something. Who is the pageant REALLY for the parent or the child?

I watched this program on The Learning Channel (rather like watching a train wreck) and after seeing the moms ridiculously stepping through the kids' routines while the kids were on stage, I have no doubt that many of these parents have deep, deep psychological issues. They seem to be living vicariously through their children, many of whom could not care less about the pageant.

And, rewarding kids for looking pretty and fitting into a set of physical specs? Don't get me started! The worst episode was when the Grand Supreme prize was a puppy. A puppy.

An interesting side note: I noticed that many of the moms are freakin' HUGE! Now, I'm not knocking anyone's appearance. 'Just saying it seems odd when heiffer moms put so much effort and expense into squeezing their children into perfect little bikini-clad, suntanned, big-haired packages while they, themselves, look like poster children for the local Liposuction clinic.

I feel pageants are outdated and people should be above that behavior.

To judge someone on their looks, talents, and/or location is very vain.

What about those young girls that never get to even "place"? What happens to their confidence? I really have no idea, but I can imagine that some of them at least end up with some sort of complex that they carry throughout their lives.

I feel that these pageants need to be banned
on the grounds of emotional and psychological child abuse.
