Hello ATSers,

It has been awhile since I have posted, but I stubbled across this documentary that to my knowledge gives an accurate account of slavery in america. Just thought I would share and get your opinions on its' accuracy. It goes in to detail from scholars in reference to slavery in America both whites/blacks.
Be advised it is a very long documentary but very educational nonetheless.

Slavery and the Making of America is a four-part series documenting the history of American slavery from its beginnings in the British colonies to its end in the Southern states and the years of post-Civil War Reconstruction.

Slavery happens and has happened all over the world, its dirty, its unfortunate, but its the natural history of the world, we cannot get away from this......

And now its time for people in America to stop using this as a crutch and a device to divide the nation even further.....we get it , black people were slaves, lots of races were slaves.....move on......

This has nothing to do with moving on at all as the series talks about both whites and blacks as slaves in America during the first series. How about you actually watch the documentary then comment. Nor, do you even know my ethnicity to make such a comment sir! I simply posted as I would like to talk about the accuracy of this documentary.

So what do you call all the worker bee drones that sit in cubicles participating in meaningless jobs most of them generally dislike for some faceless corporation 50-60-70 hours a week?
Slavery hasn't been abolished it just wears a smiley face these days.

Slavery was not first introduced to the new world by British, it was introduced by the Portuguese's, then Spain and the rest follow.

So It was not only US the one "made" by slavery, many of the ancient civilizations were too.

This pretty much sums up what I was going to say, despite the atrocious behavior of slavery especially when the Africans were shipped from Africa like cattle it was not the first instance in history of slavery nor of it's abuse. Yet we as American society seem to always look first to that instead of other instances, especially in Egypt as well in the past.

Edit --

Though for argumentative purposes I shall give this a watch as it's always good to learn a bit of History

Any kind of human slavery is not to be tolerated.

My Fathers family had slaves in south Georgia and my Mothers family had slaves in Mississippi.

I have met descendants of both groups and have heard nothing but good things about their life in the colonies.

When they were freed they did not want to leave the homes both families had built for them.

My family in Georgia gave them a piece of land and their families still own it to this day. All of them took our family sir name and one person has been very successful in Florida politics for many years.

Both groups of slaves were housed, taught to cook on stoves and were given the best of medical care,

The children of the slaves were were schooled by the mistress of the plantation.

They were happy and had a life so much improved over what they had where they were from.

There were some bad slave owners yes, but most were good people and treated their slaves with dignity.

I do not nor have I ever owned a slave. I am not responsible for slavery of white or black people.

That story is getting very old and is going to lead to problems between the people of our country unless we can all let the past go.

I don't hate men because women were not allowed to vote at one time. Women were thought of as property right here in the good old USA.
We have moved past that.

The people that sold slaves and the slave traders are the ones to be strung and quartered.

Here in my area on Jekyll Island there is a place where the slave ships would stop in the middle of the river and unload the slave cargo.
They were forced to swim and then walk through tall marsh filled with snakes and alligators to get to land.

Many died before they reached land.

I wonder why people don't get all worked up about the slavery of young girls and women that is going on right now.

The sex slavery trade is the worst ever. And it include women from all races.
OP do something to help our people in 2010.
You can't go back but you can act now.
