in 2005 I was deployed to Iraq filling a support role for a civil engineering squadron in the Air Force. We were located at Sather AB at the Baghdad Airport. We had a "shop" or workplace, located by some Iraqi aircraft hangars that had been repurposed for allied assets. On a job at one of these hangars, the on shift NCOIC told us that there used to be a mass burial site on the east side of this massive hangar. The bodies that were buried were soldiers and civilians assassinated by Saddam's royal guards. He also went on to say that once the allied forces claimed the air base, the bodies were reclaimed and moved off site.

Our work area was only about a mile from the purported hangar. One day I was shooting photos for family back home on a cheap digital camera which had only a 2 megapixel lens(did I mention this was 2005). I checked the photos later that night on my laptop after I plugged in my camera and stopped dead on this photo. I can discard the orbs due to the fact it was a dusty area with a vehicle thoroughfare located behind our tent/office. The face in this photo gave me a very sinister feeling in that tent ever since and up till we left four months later. Thoughts?

This is pretty cool but it looks like its probably someone's breath that got caught in the flash. This used to happen to me all the time on paranormal investigations. Thing is there would probably not be much water vapor in the air, it being Iraq and all... that doesn't rule out the idea it might be your breath but it does cast doubt on it...

I don't think its paranormal but other than it being some water vapor in the air, or someone's breath being caught in the flash, I don't know what it could be.

Here's one of my photos where my breath showed up:

It can look quite eerie and ghostly.

The only face i see is the one of the lad with the guitar. Is that the one you mean?

Other than that, that smokey effect could be anything really.

Well here is the face outlined to feature some prominent features such as an ear, jaw bone, mouth, cheek bones and eye sockets.

The temperature I remember was about 85 degrees at about 18:30 that night. No moisture in the air or air conditioning to bring down the temperature.

I agree i can only see a dude with a guitar and what seems to be either the camera man/womans breath, cigerette smoke blown in from somewhere....an effect added in photoshop...the list is pretty much endless, there are many other explanations to this...i wouldnt jump the gun and assume its a spirit or anything

EDIT: you also explain that behind said tent vehicles were using it as a thoughfair so we can now add vehicle fumes to the list lol
They may not be visible to your eyes in a "dusty" area but a camera would pick exhaust fumes up because of the flash

If you scroll the picture to the right, it seems that the vapor, ghost, smoke, ectoplasm or whatever, eminated from one point then expanded into the shape.

My vote's on smoke or a cobweb, I can't see any face.

I dont think its possible to say that the smoke/whatever it is, started from that point.

I see an open back door....and all i can describe as smoke at the top of the picture, which would make sense as smoke generally tends to sit at the top of a room.

As others have posted before me...there are myriad normal reasons for this effect to be achieved. Being a smoker and an avid photographer, I have seen this many, many times in photos of mine.

I remember the first time seeing it I was kinda excited about it, until someone pointed out the cigarette in my hand in the reflection. These pics can be cool looking, and sometimes can be legit, but oftentimes there is a natural explantion.

Normally I'd agree with you on the cigarette effect, but these are non smoking facilities. I'd like to blame exhaust on this, but I can't really explain how a fine mist of smoke could come from the vehicle path that was at least 150 feet away.

Is the face you're referring to just above and to the right of the dartboard?

I see something there, pretty creepy.

No it's in the foreground to the left of my friend, you can see the lightbulb, in what I perceive at least to be, it's right eye socket.

The 'second' face in this image just shows that the mist, whatever its source, will be affected by matrixing.
Matrixing being the mind's need to organize randomness into something it recognizes. We do it all the time in images or even more often in music. How many times have you sung the words to a certain song wrong for years and were convinced you were right only to learn later that the actual words were much different.

If you look close at the little 'orb' right in the middle of the picture, it looks like a smiley face too.

Oh and hey OP, tell Senior Airman Stegs I like his guitar! I wonder if he was singing the right words?

It's interesting that a vapor apparition would have a jawbone and eye sockets.
I wonder if they have reproductive organs as well.

I've cropped what I'm looking at... now let's see if I can share the image.

Okay... I see the link. Can anyone tell me how to embed a picture?

Oh you guys, I love the nitpicking and the humor is welcome. Whatever it is I'm glad we can have some fun tearing it to bits.
